Dogtra 280C Waterproof 127-Level Precise Control ½-Mile Training E-Collar

I’ve been using the Dogtra 280C for over two years now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best investments I’ve made as a dog parent. I originally bought it for my male Doberman, and after seeing how effective, reliable, and gentle it was in our training routine, I didn’t hesitate to purchase a second one for our newest pup. Even after two years of regular use, the first unit is still going strong. The battery life holds up, the remote response is instant, and the collar has stood up to everything from rainy walks to off-leash adventures. The design is compact, sleek, and doesn’t weigh my dogs down, which is a huge plus—especially with active breeds like mine. What made this even more enjoyable is how easy it was to buy a second unit. The process was simple and seamless, and I appreciated knowing I was investing in a product I already trusted. If you’re looking for a professional-grade e-collar that builds confidence, supports communication, and lasts over time, the Dogtra 280C is hands-down the one to get. It’s been a huge part of our glow-up journey as a stylish, structured dog family—and I can’t recommend it enough.

This collar is great for training in the first 6 months. However..I have a Rottweiler pup. Once he was a year old it quit fazing him. In fact, it won’t stop this 100 lb beast! I’m thinking it probably would work on a dog under 70 lbs. I’m not recommending it because my dog hates it and acts abused when I try to use it. If I keep it low he doesn’t feel it. If I turn it up he doesn’t obey, he runs from me. It’s a rather expensive item. I’m giving it a 5 because it does work for basic command training on a pup. But it’s not an essential. Because on a powerful dog like a Rottweiler? It just causes them to not trust you. I’m not recommending this for any dog because of the abuse factor. It’s difficult to explain why I don’t advise this method. Simply put it does not work on a Rottweiler. When you turn it up it just alarms them in a negative, nonproductive way. Does not work long range either. Don’t waste the money. Watch a training video.

Still a great training tool

Before anything- Register your collar on dogtra.com!! Within the fine print of their warrantee info they state that you have to register the device with in 30 days of purchase to qualify for their warrantee. If you miss that deadline like me, make sure you have a proof of purchase. I ordered this collar to use with my 1.5yo mixed breed dog. She is very excitable, distractible, and stubborn and this collar has been game changing for her. Just for reference, she is about 36lbs with fairly thin fur and her working levels range between 4 -12 based on how distracting the environment is. I strictly followed dog trainer Larry Krohn's book "Everything you need to know E collar training"(I highly recommend reading this book before getting started with the collar!) along with watching his youtube videos. I also learned a lot from watching youtube videos made by Upstate Canine Academy. Their philosophies and training styles are very similar and they both use the ecollar primarily as a communication device vs using it as strictly a correction. I made sure to follow their plans very slowly and saw amazing results with my dog within just the first 2 weeks of training with it. !! If you do not feel comfortable with your skills to use this collar humanly, please seek out professional help from a trusted dog trainer in your area. Or Tom Davis from the Upstate Canine Academy offers online training support via Skype. !! The only reason I gave this collar 4 stars is because after less than 2 months of use it stopped working. The lower levels of the stim stopped working. When I first received the collar, testing it on my wrist I could start to feel it around an 18-20. when it stopped working I could barely feel it at a 50. I called their customer support and they sent me a label no charge to ship the collar in for inspection and service. because I live in Illinois, it took about 12 days for them to receive the collar in California, and then another 8 days to service it and ship it back. I should receive it in about a week. Im extremely happy that they were able to fix it free of charge even though I did not register with in the 30 days after purchase, though I still had my proof of purchase. It has really stunk to have to pause our trining for this long of a gap, about a month, but over all I am very happy with this collar and the freedom that it has given my dog. The battery life has been good, I get about 3 days of use between charges as long as I turn off both the collar and the remote when not using.

It is the perfect size for my Basenji. I love that it has a higher number count for the levels. It gives me more freedom to adjust the intensity as my dog is a crybaby. This is perfect for that drama queen or drama king dog that you have to train. He has done so well, just only in one private lesson.

This product was used during obedience training at a daycare facility and now that our dog is back home, we have used the product to continue reinforcement of some guarding behavior. It definitely gets our dogs attention but is set to very low setting.

This is my first review ever. That’s how great this product is. Story time... My dog is deaf and needs a good strong vibration and a shock setting... Bought a $45 pertrainer e-collar off amazon. It worked well but died with a bit of water contact. Got the replacement from them seamlessly, which was nice, a bit of rain and the replacement died as well. Bought an e-collar from a pet store. The petsafe remote trainer. Vibration was too weak & the cibration button was the same as the shock button. No bueno. This e-collar has a very strong vibration. My dog feels it and responds well every time. There’s a button for each function, shock and vibrate. It’s durable and STUPID PROOF for operating. Easily turn them on, pair and so on. Truth be told it’s more $$$ than i would have liked to spend, but the quality is so worth it. If you have a deaf dog like i do, or if you just want a quality trainer with a great vibration setting, look no further. I hope this helps 🙌🏼

Good material, nice packaging!

I absolutely love it. my dog understood very fast that she cannot take off. Actually I am just using the pager (vibration only, no shock). and it works so far for my dog. I watched a few youtube videos how to train the dog. very helpful and it worked. After 3 days training I am able to walk her without leash. What a success! This collar system is a life changer!
