Greed based pricing in my opinion - Therefore only a 4.
Around ten years ago I switched the brand and type of dog food I was using from a legacy brand's supreme product, to Merrick. That legacy brand got 2 of my now deceased dogs to nearly 18 years old. However, that brand's food began to smell like rotten meat and was offensive to my current dogs and my family. It truly reeked. Merrick was a super brand at the time, so I switched to Merrick. In the ten years since, all 5 of my dogs absolutely love Merrick's dry dog foods (NOT SO with their canned dog foods with the nasty smells and little spots of some kind of colonies). I have never had any problems getting my dogs to eat dry Merrick food and their stools have always been soft enough for the dogs and firm enough to be easily picked up. I always use warm water in the dry food for easier swallowing, digestion, and to keep my dogs hydrated. I use allot of water. My current dogs are all a healthy weight, active, swim, and can hike good distances. They are 12 to 14 years old. However, 4 out of my 5 current dogs (important note -12 to 14 years old) have developed skin tags (or cysts?) and 2 of them have small lumps under the skin. 1 dog had a pair of fatty cysts removed from her belly. My recently deceased 15 year old was quite the lumpy bumpy dog. He also had severe neuropathy and epilepsy which was unrelated to diet. This is NOT to say that Merrick foods caused all that. Allot of that is old age... Pretty much the only way I could have done better feeding my dogs, would have been to sell my house and live in a van so I could buy expensive freshly butchered meats and guts for my dogs everyday for 20 years. Not practicable.Having said all that scary stuff, most people only get their dogs to live for around ten to twelve years old (according to the vets I have used). One vet was shocked that my 11 year old could still jump into the bed of my full sized truck. He said most dogs at 11 were either sick and obese, or being put down. So I am WAY ahead of the curve by selecting Merrick DRY foods. Is Merrick perfect? No. But it's in my budget. Bottom line, buy the best dog food you can afford. The best does not always mean the most expensive. The super cheap junk dog foods out there are like feeding your dogs the equivalent of human junk every meal of their lives. Now, let's talk Merrick's cost. In that, I am ANGRY! Over the years, the size of the bags decreased as the price remained relatively stable. And then the prices exploded in recent years - twice. In 2017, a 25 pound bag cost around $60, about $2.40 a pound. In 2023, a 22 pound bag costs about $75, about $3.40 a pound. That is a massive increase in just over 5 years! In my opinion, all the excuses and alleged reasons for the wide spread, recent price explosions, are all bull. It's all straight up greed. The dog food companies are included in that opinion. Many people will no longer be able feed their treasured animals which will deprive them of longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. Nuff said, drop the price!

Great food
I did a lot of research on the best dog foods and ultimately decided on this one, I started with the puppy version, and my dog loved it, I attempted to switch him to a different type of food and my dog did not like it so we’ve moved back to the original version for adult dogs and he is as happy as can be

Great for my Goldens!
We have 2 Golden sisters. After puppy food we went to adult dry food(s). Major gut problems like gas and diarrhea. Changed to Merrick when they were 2 yo on advice from our vet and no more stink or diarrhea!! It was probably the gluten grains in other foods. Stayed with Merrick (Texas Beef and Sweet Potato) ever since. (I also add some fish oil to their dish for their joints). They are 8 yo now and in great health!

Good brand
I think it’s so expensive for what it is. Good ingredients, my dog likes it but I don’t think it’s worth all the money.

Not a favorite
I have 4 mini schnauzers and I purchased this food to change it up for them since they normally like new food that is chicken flavored. I served them and they smelled it, nibbled and they did not eat an entire day. I thought maybe they were not hungry since they had their other food. We ran out of their other food and continued giving them this one and they were not fans. All 4 went on strike and did not eat for a day and a half. I immediately went back to their old food and they ate it right up! I felt so bad they had not eaten. I did not want to throw the food so we gave it away to another 4 legged owner and his dog (pit) seemed to like it.

Excellent Ingredients But Expensive
My Bulldog likes this food a lot. The ingredients help her sensitive skin and digestive issues, but the price is very high. Seeing as how she's happy and enjoys the food, I'll continue to buy it. Just wish it was a bit cheaper. Other brands with similar ingredients are a cheaper, but she's happy so I'll continue with this brand and flavor.

Great food my dog loves, stupid raising of price and reduction in size
My dog has loved this all his life (12), and I love the product itself, but their approach to ‘shrinkflation’ is making me look elsewhere.I understand inflation and that costs can go up. A frequent approach is to offer a smaller size for the same previous price. Or to just raise the price for the same size.Instead - they have reduced the 25lb bag down to 22lbs… but also jacked up the price by $14.To break it down - the price used to come out to around $2.40 per pound. Now it’s $3.36.Had just one of those things (lessen amount OR raise prices) been true, it would be easier to swallow.3lbs less food for $14 more is doing a great job at eroding my loyalty and general goodwill. Meh.

Great Dog Food
I am completely satisfied with the Merrick brand. My dogs weight is right where it should be. No stomach problems and he has plenty of energy. I've also noticed that he smells better and his coat is glowing. I would highly recommend this brand to anyone with a young energetic dog. However, the Amazon courier in my area (USPS) is so unreliable that I have cancelled my Amazon subscription for this product and will buy at a local pet store. I admit to being a little upset that Amazon could not help me with the delivery problems...

Torn package, spilled kibbles and waste.
One of the pack is torn and kibbles spilled out and into the packing box. I had to throw those away as I was not sure if they were contaminated/compromised. The other pack was ok. Disappointed and sad of the wastage.Update: I have continued to purchase a few pack at different times from seller. Subsequent packages arrived intact and well pack by Amazon. Will continue to get this product from them.
