Educational
We rented this book from a local library. My son liked it so much he wanted to keep it so we just ordered one :) Has a ton of birds and info on them in it so you can identify the birds in your own yard.

A truly outstanding children's book
This book has it all -- great facts, appealing layout, detailed and useful illustrations. The writing is superb, taking into account an older child's point of view. It's a significant step up from most similar books for children. It should provide families with hours of enjoyment and learning.

Perfect Beginning Bird Watching Guide
What's That Bird? is a wonderful supplement for any nature study (especially for homeschoolers). It is perfect for kids ages 7-12. In the beginning, there are pictures of the different types of feathers birds have. Then, a bird's body is illustrated with its anatomy identified. The diagrams are clear and easy to understand. From there, you will learn so much about birds. 75 of the most common birds are in a bird identification guide. The writing is clear and concise and is for a 5th or 6th grade reading level. I shared this book with a friend who grew up bird watching and she loved it. I know so little about birds, but I want to learn to appreciate them with my children. This book will be a wonderful resource for our nature studies. I highly recommend it. I also recommend The Nature Connection as a complementary resource to draw and write about the birds you observe. The books go well together. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book from Storey Publishing for review.

Using this book in the context of 4th grade and 6th grade homeschool nature study. Very good. Wish it came with a CD of bird calls.
