How do the adaptors adjust (they say 30/35mm etc..)

They work by having a number of spring loaded rollers inside a circular cam, they adjust automatically. So you put the appropriate head onto the long tube, remove the track rod end and rubber bellows on the steering rack. Place the tool over the track rod and onto the ball joint, put a breaker bar on the tool (you may need to put a couple of socket extensions onto the bar to bring it outside the wing so you can get best leverage) and then turn it anticlockwise, the rollers will grip the ball joint and then you put some pressure on, it usually comes off quite easily. Fitting the new track rod, put the track rod in position and hand screw it in untill it gets too stiff, then fit tool and tighten. The steering rack cannot spin as the the gear teeth hold it in position. Replace the rubber boot and fix with zip ties, fit new ends and adjust track approximately, then immediately go round and have the car professionally tracked.

How does this tool actually grip the knuckle?

You have to remove the track rod end ball joint first. Select the right size end for the steering tie rod end then just slide the tool over tie rod until over the knuckle it then engages in the Direction you are turning

Hi it is approximately 330mm internal bore overall length is 370 that’s not including the tool which fits on the end
