Used it for a sermon series on David. Parts of it were splendid. Parts of it were a bit of a stretch. Every page is worth your time though.

One of the best books I've read in many years
Only surpassed, perhaps, by Peterson's Run with Horses book. WOW. One of the best books I've read in many years. I've been reading Oswald Chambers for 18 years, and I so identify with Peterson's amazing insights. The life of King David will never be the same again. Highlighter required reading.

The Life of David in a new look
What a wonderful book! Eugene Peterson makes you laugh while at the same time makes you think! Each chapter is packed with truth from Scripture. My husband & I read it together and we have recommended it to others as an invaluable book in one's library. I want to read it again to gain new insights.

Absorbing
A very interesting look at the life of King David, from his anointing through all his trials and tribulations as king. This is done in a storyteller format at which Mr. Peterson excels. His quirky humor keeps you smiling. He even touches on some of the minor characters in the Davis story that I'd totally forgotten about.

Engaging story
I always appreciated Eugene Peterson’s insights into scripture. This is a very engaging narrative of the Biblical personality of David. Not full of jargon or clergy buzz words, but just plain good story telling

Exceptional book
This is a remarkable book - focussed on the life of David, and full of interesting insights. I was constantly taken by surprise by fresh insights on David, on David in relation to Jesus Christ, and on daily living.

Very good read
I have been very impressed by this book, it is insightful and challenging. Like many Christians I have found the Old Testament difficult to read on occasions and this book has made me consider my assumptions and be more open to reading such wonderful but human stories as this one about David.

leaping over
I have used "the message bible" by same author, so thought I would read this title, especially after I was recommended during a study course on "King David" in the bible.
