I bought one in 2010 and it worked until just about the time the warranty ran out. Then it stated to give false signals off and on and by the end of the next month, it would continuously squeal whenever it was turned on. I figured I had done something wrong to it so I bought another and that one lasted perhaps two months longer than the first before it started to do the same thing. I did some on line research (search for "Garrett Pro Pointer problems" on You Tube) and found dozens of examples of the same problem. It turns out that this is caused by going cheap on insulation for 2 wires, something that Garrett could have prevented literally for 5 cents in the manufacturing process. The fact that they still haven't done so with all the evidence of a faulty design speaks volumes for the company.

I bought a metal detector last christmas for my father, but truth be told it was kind of for me too :P I just love it. We have a lot of fun just going around the yard. What wasn't so fun was constantly getting targets and just not being able to find them because they were small things and spending around 10 minutes digging, digging, digging, throwing handfuls of dirt of the MD coil to see if I've found it yet. I originally thought a pin pointer would of been a waste of money and that's why I didn't get one when I purchased out MD, however, I picked one up this Christmas and it does make a difference in recovery time. I can quickly tell if the hole I dug is a little too much to the right, or not deep enough, and I know exactly which direction to head. It really cut down on the time it takes, and the size of the holes I make.The included shovel is also solid, I will get a larger one eventually but it's very nice and easy to carry.

The Garrett Pro-Pointer Metal Detector and Edge Digger Combo is GREAT! The pro-pointer even came with a battery. The pointer allows you to focus in on an item that is hard to find. The detection range is easily adjusted. Once you hear a steady detection signal, simply push the on/off button to turn it off and back on while holding it in the same place. This shrinks the detection range making it easier to find the object. You can do this as many times as needed till the object is found. To reset the pointer back to its original setting, just hold the device away from all metal objects and turn it off and back on again. It is that simple. The edged digger is an awesome tool. It is made well and very strong. The toothed edge of the digger makes it easy to dig in hard ground and amongst small roots. It is also narrower than a regular garden trowel which allows the user to get it tighter spaces. I highly recommend this combo package to anyone who has a metal detector. It will make your treasure hunting experience more enjoyable and profitable.

Comes ready to use w/ battery installed and very heavy duty sheaths for the shovel and pointer. After using the pointer a few minutes, it's hard to see how one could go detecting without one - and a spare. This pointer is more sensitive than some of the older models on YouTube, but maybe that's the new batteries, etc.The dark coated shovel allows low profile digging. It is about as narrow as possible which is good for small holes, but a larger, longer shovel may be needed for large or deep items. The pros seem to do well with this on YouTube, though.Arrived by mail in a box small enough for a rural mailbox. The LED light shines into the target area for easier viewing as well as enabling nighttime detecting. This is the one, must have tool one needs.

It was my first pointer and I had nothing to compare it too. That being said, it has done everything I hoped it would and works fine with no drawbacks . I find the sheath that came with it very handy.

We dig the forest preserve and backyard all the time. This pin pointer lets you quickly scan and isolate the treasure (or junk) quickly. =We use a traditional metal detector to scan the area and then this pin pionter to get in the hole and find the object quickly. Lots of fun, water resistant and comes with a holster. I purchased the kit with the eart knife. Totally simple way to dig a small hole. The blade is offset to dig a small hole perfectly, every time.
