Review: The most fun and addiction you've had in years... - Despite all the reviews you may have seen on the gaming sites, don't believe the negative reviews about this game. This is a follow up to Earth Defense Force 2017, that being said you can't miss out on this newest version. This game is so much fun, and it gets addictive. Once you get into it which takes about an hour, after that you will find yourself hooked in, just like edf 2017 this version is even better! The giant space ships, the hundreds of giant insect monsters! It's all in here plus more than 500 weapons and new character types. I've played it for a week and it's one of those games where you find yourself saying, "just one more round." It's that good. -The Graphics, the graphics are really good to me, this isn't Crysis and it's not supposed to be, this is an engine that is meant to be broken apart blown up and destroyed! Everything you see is just temporary once the action starts, just like any Monster movie set the City is there for the sole purpose of crumbling down into piles of dust! The best part about the newer engine is that the monsters and insects all blow apart, loose limbs, heads, abdomens everything gets blow apart! Now you really feel like you are destroying everything with your weapons. When that 40 foot robot comes crashing down, and then seconds later BA BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!! It blows sky high in a tremendous screen shaking explosion you will have a smile on your face! I can't explain it enough. When you hit that giant ant with a big missile you now get a violent blood blast explosion that blasts out of the insect, it's really got a good impact and the weapons really pack a good punch! The buildings collapse and come down on more detail too! It's breath taking to watch, when that missile sails into a small building and it blows the walls out, or when a big weapon hits a 100 story sky scraper and blows out a wall then the rest of the building comes crumbling down, you will just say DAMMMMMNNNN. -Sound; oh boy the sound effects, very cool and fun, this adds to the atmosphere of the game, the NPC's constantly talk about the ongoing war minute by minute with updates about encounters with new monsters and interesting battles taking place out there somewhere. Hearing about a big encounter on the Moon, and battles elsewhere on the earth is so cool, you can just imagine what's going on. Scientists periodically chime in with the results of research and tests, and data that they've been studying. Your fellow EDF soliders sing as they charge into battle after battle, they talk about home and other things, and chant EDF! EDF! it's all so cool you feel right there in the game. They fight the monsters right there with you and help even the odds. The NPC civilians run away stumbling screaming and falling trying to escape the carnage and the monsters, and you really feel like you are there facing a huge threat. The weapons are equally excellent, from the Air Diver's laser weapons to the Rangers Missiles and Sniper Rifles! You will have so much fun! Plus there are so many difficulty levels and on the harder levels you unlock stronger weapons! So worth the $50!!! Don't even get started on the Multiplayer... Oh and the Air Diver can basically fly... You have to earn some weapons to give the air diver some punch but once you do her weak body is backed up by her powerful weapons, like continuous fire laser beams and giant plasma cannons... LOL All in glorious third person view too so you get to see the weapons modeled on the characters and everything. I could go on for another page, but i just want to say one thing. SANDLOT! Yesssssssssss! This is IT! If you've been on the fence about buying this, go ahead and get it. I was reluctant because of so many boring games recently but this is from a company that seems to know what their formula is and they don't stray from it. You'd think it would be tiring to keep destroying monster after monster but everything melds together so well that each thing supports the other. I also think adding in the Havok engine's ability to rag doll everything and blow the insects apart really adds to the random appeal of the game, it no longer feels like ugh 500th ant or spider because they now die in so many different ways!!! Sometimes you can blow them completely apart... This game is so good for you shooter fans! Get it you won't be disapointed, this is for the EDF 2017 faNS and anyone wanting a good arcade shooter!!! Trust me!
Review: Great, campy fun. - The Earth Defense Force series is one of my favorite video game series of all time. Despite not having the best graphics, story, music, voice acting, or sound, I always find myself coming back to the series when I am looking for some great, mindless fun. The premise is simple. Aliens and insects are invading Earth and it is up to the Earth Defense Force to send them packing. Essentially, you are the star of a campy 50's alien invasion story. You can choose between one of four classes to play the game. The Ranger is your standard infantry soldier who has access to very powerful weaponry, including sniper rifles and rocket launchers. The Wing Diver can fly and has access to exotic alien weapons. The Fencer is a power-armored death machine that can equip up to four different weapons and can either enter melee with giant hammers & swords or just shred bugs with dual gattling guns & artillery pieces. Lastly, the Air Raider can summon tanks, helicopters, & mech suits to the field, and place markers for massive artillery strikes. Throughout the game, you can increase your health and find new weapons by picking up boxes dropped by dead aliens. Some of the the later gear is absolutely nuts, ranging from massive scythes that leave a swath of destruction, tanks that fire shells so large the recoil sends the tank back 5 feet, and even hijacking orbital lasers to annihilate ants. The game is about as deep as a puddle. You spend most of the time killing ants, spiders, wasps, robots, bigger robots, ships, dragons, and the like. The graphics are so-so, especially for an end-generation title. The music is functional but not exciting. The sound effects likewise are nothing interesting but the voice acting certainly helps. As I mentioned, this game is campy. Very campy. Your AI squad mates talk, often having hilarious disjointed conversations like "Why did you get married?" "For justice!" or breaking into battle chants while Hell is breaking loose on the field. It really adds to the camp factor and makes the game enjoyable. While EDF 2025 will not win any technical awards, it is a blast to play and to me, that is all that matters in the end. With over 80 missions, 4 classes, multiplayer, 5 difficulty levels, and a $40 price tag, Earth Defense Force 2025 is an easy recommendation.

### ⭐⭐⭐ EDF 2025 is a bona fide Alien Invasion Simulator!!!
*by D***. on January 28, 2015*

That's right folks, EDF is a genuine alien invasion simulator. And like in a real alien invasion, the aliens will not take pity on you, they will swarm you all at once, and they will introduce new mega boss beasts to you by the truckload and all at once while you stand there holding your trusty M16 knock-off. While this is all well and good for preparing you for the arrival of our future alien overlords, I'm not sure that it makes for a fun and enjoyable game. Snarkiness aside, I'm a fan of the EDF series, have all 3 games, and accept it for what it is. And just like any time you have something fun that is heavily flawed, it's hard not to get grumpy about it. Here are my pros and cons for this newest entry in the EDF franchise. -Action, Action, Action! Each level (of which there are many) starts off quickly, and ends quickly. There are rarely any times in which there is not something to blast on the screen. However, the game does follow the old-school theme of requiring that every last bad guy die a horrible death before the day is done. So, if you miss some alien hung up on a tree or something, be prepared to backtrack to it, because the mission won't end otherwise. -Oh, the Destruction! You can blow up just about everything, and it is extremely satisfying to bring massive structure down with a few well placed mortar shells. -The Story! It has some of the best 50's era pseudo-science this side of an old black-and-white theater. It's cheesy...it's lame...but it does keep the story moving forward. -Coop! Few games lend themselves better to playing with a friend than EDF. It's nice to have that option. -The anti-screen shake feature! The absolute first thing you should do when you start this game is turn off screen shake. Seriously, you will thank the developers for including it. Because without it, you will start suffering from Shaken Gamer Syndrome within the first 30 minutes, and frankly we're not sure if the condition is reversible. -Mobility Issues: This game should really be called the Walking Dead Aliens. With the exception of the flying characters, your protagonist moves at an excruciatingly slow pace, and running never seems to be an option. The exo-suit class is even worse, although you can chain dash at a slightly faster speed than walking if you've equipped the right weapons. This is ok in early levels where objectives are right next to one another, but later on when you have to traverse large maps, it really kills the fun. Imagine yourself in an alien invasion. Now imagine yourself walking across Detroit. Yeah, it's as much fun as it sounds. -Aiming: Aiming is loose and imprecise, especially with some characters like the exo-suit characters for whom aiming is a lot like trying to aim after you've downed a whole bottle of vodka. -Camera Issues: I'm deducting a full point for the fact that anything can and everything will get between your view of your character, completely blocking your view. Inexcusable in a modern game, and EDF is not the only one that is guilty of it. -Balancing: The game has some real balancing issues in regards to the difficulty curve, especially at later levels. It wouldn't be so bad except there are no checkpoints, and some levels can be extremely long when you're clearing wave after wave of aliens while trying to destroy their spawn point. Luckily, the game allows you to pick the difficulty before you start each mission. -Ratings: A game like this practically begs to have some kind of scoresheet after each level so you can see how you did, but unfortunately it doesn't have one. No kills per player, no percentage accuracy, no cost of property damage caused. There is an overall career tally of kills for a player, but nothing by level, giving you very little reason to repeat an old level once, much less doing it 4 times (once for each class which you are "encouraged" to do). -Now with more Stuttervision! Granted, the Xbox360 is a last-gen system, but massive frame rate drops are no deterrent to the developers as they throw every explosion, bullet, collapsing building, and giant alien they can on the screen all at once. It would be understandable during certain key scenes, but it happens all the time in the game. So, all in all, EDF 2025 is right in line with the previous entries. Which is to say that it is a flawed experience that can be fun for the right kind of gamer. Cheers!
