Fantastic Part, Easy to Install
Last night I replaced a failed 10 year old valve, and this worked correctly the first time. I didn't even have to adjust it (though different plumbing configurations might require adjusting the internal cam.. more on that later). I already have a a fair amount of experience with my Aqualink RS panel, so running and connecting the wiring harness only took about 5 minutes, including zip typing off the extra cable and buttoning up the panel. This valve works with different automation systems, but if you have an AquaLink RS, the steps are to cut the power to the pool equipment (there is high voltage in there), remove the two screws that hold the inside cover on. Below the buttons, on the right center, the JVAs are connected to the panel. Trace the old wire to the connection, pull it off of the panel, and attach the new wire (just follow the old wiring run). Attach the actuator to the valve using the supplied screws, following the directions. Note that the valve shaft and the actuator shaft are both splined with 4 splines. Three of the splines are wide, one is narrow; make sure to line up the narrow spline on both the valve and valve actuator.Turn on the power, put the system in service mode. Leave the filter pump off, and test the valve with the valve toggle buttons on the panel (pool, spa, drain, x). Make sure the new valve moves as expected. If the new valve moves opposite of what you expect, try flipping the actuator toggle to position 2. If that doesn't work, then you might need to adjust the cams. To adjust the cams, remove the valve handle, then remove the smaller 4 screws on the actuator, pull off the top, and use a small screwdriver to rotate the cams on the shaft as needed. There are two cams .. the top cam controls one stop position, the bottom cam controls the other stop location. Just watch for when the bump on the cam flips the microswitch, then adjust the cam left or right as needed to get the valve to stop in the correct place. Once you get one direction done, work on the other.. It's actually pretty straightfoward. My actuator came well packaged in a plain brown box, and the actuator looked exactly like the product photo. It does not include the valve handle, you just reuse the existing handle (handles come with the valves, not the valve actuators). The box also included the four screws to mount the actuator to the valve body, and a printed instruction manual.I noticed that these new actuators are designed and manufactured much better than the 10 year old models I have been replacing. The capacitor is now soldered to the circuit board instead of attached inline with wires. The cams are now spring clips that are much easier to adjust than the old style that had to be locked down with a nut. The toggle switch is also attached to the circuit board now, instead of attached with wires, which is much cleaner, and has fewer connections to fail. Finally, the new toggle switch location on the bottom is more difficult to find than when it was on the back, but this is a good thing, since it only needs to be set once, and it's much more difficult to accidentally flip it now. I had a switch get flipped during a hail storm two years ago, which caused a valve to switch positions, which drained our spa. I was so confused, I thought the valve was bad.. but it was such a simple thing. The interior "guts" of this new model of actuator is really clean and simple compared to the mess of the old models.

Opened box but used it anyway
I’m giving this five stars, because it is a good product and perfect replacement for a failed part on my pool system. That being said, I received what was obviously an open box and discovered that the valve was in its manual override state and wouldn’t come out of it. That is likely why the previous buyer returned it, as the valve would not automatically turn once installed- for those who don’t know about the manual override, it would appear that it was broken. I disassembled it to confirm alignment and reset the override to get it back to automatic - things have worked flawlessly ever since.

NICE AND EASY!
Fixing my broke automatic jandy valve was easy with this kit. Only thing is that there werent any instructions- but I managed to do it pretty easily:This comes with the top part of the automatic valve- it does NOT have the handle or the valve. Those parts will already be on your existing system- as this is a replacement kit for the motor assembly.1) I cut power to my pool equip.2) I opened up my control panel front (4 screws and it lifts off)3) I followed the cord from the OLD auto-valve to find out where it is plugged in. I unplugged it.4) I removed the handle and unscrewed the old Jandy motor from the top of my existing valve.5) Once old motor removed, a pulled the cord out of the control panel carefully.6) I placed NEW jandy motor over and onto the valve. NOTE: there is a certain way that the motor fits over the fitting of the valve. one of the "prongs" of the fitting is smaller. This needs to match up in order to slide over. If your valve's small prong is in the wroing spot, use the handle to move it to correct position and then slide the new motor over it. Once in place, screw it down and put old handle on top.7) Feed wire back into control panel and plug in same spot where the original was. fold up all the excess wire and place inside control panel (usually there are spaces on the side for this.)8) turn panel back on and switch modes to test new motor- in my case, I had to flip the bottom switch on the new motor to an "on" position and then make sure I was using the correct of the two settings to sync up with which mode the panel was in (the 2 modes are reverse setting of each other) -since my valve just requires all the way to the left or all the way to the right, I didnt need to do any adjusting- it just worked.9) Put the face back on the panel and you are done!

Easy to install, replaced JVA 2440
Decided to order this online and install it myself to save on the installation costs from my local pool supply store. I read online that this JVA 2444 is a replacement the JVA 2440 (now discontinued) that was originally installed on my Jandy system back in 2006 when the pool was built. The installation took a little longer than expected, but that was primarily due to me not being able to fish the cable through the underground pvc in my particular setup. Instead, I used zip ties to strap the power cable to the pipes and ran it along my retaining wall to the panel. I'll hold off on giving it 5 stars for now as I want to see how many years of use I'll get out of it before giving it the strong stamp of approval.
