Much better than the original !
Without doing a track by track review this particular cd is substantially better than the original cd produced by Yes and Eddie Offord. The cd was sold as an import and, truthfully by and large it sounds warmer and the fidelity more pure. In the liner notes it mentions a Barry Diament as being responsible for the cd mastering although its unclear if he did it originally or for the import as it was originally remastered by Joe Gastwirt. This recording is much more audio friendly with many less auditory break ups and as I said much more warmer than the original version. I must say however that whoever miked Alan Whites drums should be ashamed as they sound like cardboard boxes. Bill Bruford’s drums sounds substantially better on the two tracks he’s on. This import has a marked improvement over the original but one could only hope that Steven Wilson would one day get a hold of the original master tapes and work his magic on them and improve a recording that desperately needs it.

Must Have!
This was the first YES album I ever bought in the early seventies and will probably be the last. I could only afford one and it had everything at that time. The live renditions are fantastic and I still listen to this after so many years!

Great Music, But...
It's my personal belief that every audiophile should have at least a few live albums in his collection; "Yessongs" is one of mine, and a personal favorite in its original vinyl form. Some tracks, like "Siberian Khatru" and "Perpetual Change," sound better than their studio counterparts, and Chris Squire's jaw-dropping bass solo during "The Fish" is by itself worth the price of the album. However, this CD set was remastered rather poorly; much of the ambient noise that analog recording catches--and which is itself a part of the music--has been eliminated, resulting in a thinner, more sterile sound (I went back and listened to my vinyl version, and I can hear the difference clearly). Moreover, the tracks are divided strangely; "Siberian Khatru," for example, ends with Jon Anderson introducing the next song, "Heart of the Sunrise." For someone like myself, who constantly creates playlists and mixes for "on the go" listening, it's very frustrating. They did include all of Roger Dean's wonderful cover art (the original package was a W-fold, and each fold contained a different painting), but that kind of album art has to be large to be appreciated fully, so the best I can give on that is half-a-point for trying. So all in all, it's rather a toss-up. Technically, the CD isn't very good...but the greatness of the music therein more than makes up for its engineering faults.

Live Yes In The Early '70s
The band sounds great on this double-disc live set from 1973. Most of the tracks that were performed for this recording were from The Yes Album, Fragile, or Close To The Edge. Since those are my favorite Yes albums overall, is it any wonder that I enjoy the band highlighting songs from those albums? The band sounded so tight, and they didn't miss a beat! :)

Yes - from the 70's
Yes live album released back in the 70's when they were still Prog Gods. I had the original 3 record set back then but never upgraded to Cds for some reason. Maybe vinyl record snobbery? No hate intended to the purists out there - they're probably right, vinyl sounds better. I just want the convenience these days, and these discs (2 Cds) sound just fine to these old ears. If you love early Yes, have no fear, this is the real deal.
