Shepherd Hardware9345 2-Inch Medium Duty Stem Caster, 2-Pack,Black

I was looking to replace the wheels on an office chair that was my father's. I'm guessing the chair is about 80 years old. The original wheels (which i still have) are made of wood, and one of them cracked off a small chip that seriously degraded it's roundness.These wheels looked like a good modern replacement with hard rubber wheels.The retro look is awesome. And the hard rubber wheels on a stone floor is also good. And replacement of the old wheels was easy and quick.Now the problems...First is the Ball-Bearings. (see first pic, with only 2 bearings left). The covering on the Bearings is a little loose and a little short and hence the Bearings have - to be too kind - a very annoying tendency to fall out. Which aside from destroying the swivel function of the wheel, is also a floor hazard. Resulting in at least one nasty expletive when it met with my bear heal.After about 1 year enough Bearings had found other places to be rather than the wheels, necessitating replacement. And unfortunately, having not yet found better suitable replacements, i reordered these. They also seem to have about a 50% failure rate... so i'm gambling on 2 more good ones from another order of 4 wheels.This gets me to another problem with these wheels... They don't come out.Now this was particularly annoying. If you make an inferior product that needs frequent replacement, they should be easy to replace. But, no! If you look at the second picture you will notice that the original wheel stem has a slightly rounded catch. But, not the new ones, thay have a sharp 90 degree catch that grabs the sleeve and when you go to pull out the bearingless wheel, it pulls out the sleeve too! (ok, if you apply light removal force while turning and wiggling the wheel, it finds the sweet spot and then pulls out easily).The price is good. But frankly, i'd pay double for a wheel that lasted longer (the original wheels lasted 80 years).

The bearings allowing them to swivel have loosened up on all 4 of mine to the point there's excess wobble. One loosened enough that it shed all of its balls all over the floor. The original casters on my chair lasted over 50 years, these replacements barely made 6 months.

Wife has heavy oak server that matches dinning room table, chairs and china cabinet. Two of the rollers had caught on carpet and pulled part way out, then bent the shaft. I searched for replacements and found these and ordered two packages to get four new rollers. Probably should have ordered the smaller ones, as these were a little bigger wheels than the ones I was replacing, and wheels did not clear the skirt of the server if they are installed in the existing mounting sockets. I cut new mounting blocks from scrap 2X4 lumber and drilled holes for the mounting sockets. Tapped the mounting sockets firmly in place with a mallet and mounted the new blocks on the bottom of the server with screws. These new casters are sturdy and quiet, allowing the server to roll easily on tile, wood or carpeted floors. Wife thinks I should have done this a long time ago. Nice looking, quiet and sturdy casters.

These antique looking casters are definitely worthy of 5 stars. They have a great nostalgic appeal. They are sturdy and well made regardless of what country produced them (my response to another reviewer that seemed to disparage China). The wheels are easily assembled. Just drill a hole according to the directions. The sleeve slips right into the hole, and then with a tap of the hammer, the teeth sink into the end grain of the wood. The wheels snap right into the sleeve with a gentle pop. The wheels come lubricated. The wheels swivel and roll easily. If you want your piece to be more stationary, you can place it on a rug. Keep in mind these are not intended for extreme weight or really heavy duty.

Needed something for wood floors, specifically choose this as the description says “soft black rubber wheel”The wheel is a hard plastic. The parting line from molding it is proud and has left marks/indents in my floor.Very disappointed

Roll well and are easy to install. Smooth rolling and good way to protect wood floors.I chose not to make a 3/8" hole for the shaft holders and instead drilled 5/16" holes for the stem (0.31" diameter) and then used window caulking to insure that they would not slip out but could still be removed in the future with damaging the legs.The are being used on a small Eastlake dresser with a mirror and the dark finish worked perfectly.

Bought these to put on a low stool. Only tricky part was drilling the hole straight so the caster wasn't crooked.They work fine. No idea how much weight will break them. not going to try to find out.

I received these but didn't use right away. When I finally went to install, one wheel had a bent piece of metal and all the ball bearings had fallen out. We put them back and bent the metal again so it would worked. I probably would have returned for replacement if I hadn't waited so long to use them. But they are working fine now.

Review the size. They're much bigger than I expected, so I returned them. But they're nice if the size is what you're looking for.

Seem to be reasonably well made. Have an an older wooden desk chair that needed the four casters replaced. Matched up very well. Hopefully they will stand up.

Nice for refinished wood office chair. Works well on carpet too.

Did not fit for my project but good product. Brass look is nice.
