Are there different versions of this throughout the years?

I believe there were. We purchased the animal version, so there could have been other items representing each letter of the alphabet in a different version.

Many of these reviews mention the price is $80 or $75, or even on Fisher Price for $27. Why is the price on here $349.99? What is the real price?

This IS discontinued... however, even if it is "packaged as new" it would make the collectible worth more, not "not considered to be collectible". $280 is ridiculous. Check your local once upon a child, I bought these for $15 gently used with 20 extra blocks from another peek a boo set.

Can these be washed with soap and water?

YES, these can be washed but not soaked.
