True Strength: My Journey from Hercules to Mere Mortal - and How Nearly Dying Saved My LIfe

True Hercules, Real Courage!
The media could not be loaded. When I first heard about Kevin Sorbo's experience with stroke it scared the heck out of me. A neck injury caused by a dishonest chiropractor resulted in some of the symptoms Mr. Sorbo experienced. Watching his video on YouTube about his experience brought back the memories and I could not watch the video, it gave me anxiety attacks. I felt like a coward. He's Hercules! Why can't I be brave like him and just watch his video? I got up the courage and watched the videos. Realized he went through 10 times what I experienced! How did he do it? The vertigo, endless roaring in his head, problems understanding what his wife was saying to him, BALANCE, blood clots in his shoulder, arm, turning it purple, numb, almost dies and so many health conditions. Blind spots in his visual field, seeing lightning... For a long time he couldn't walk without holding onto tables, chairs... to keep from falling. Doctors missing diagnosis of stroke, 3 of them!! and other conditions not diagnosed when they should have been. Chiropractor causing injury, possibly a, the major cause of the strokes, then just 'brushing it off', walking away from the situation.Kevin did not give up. He grows stronger every day. He is our hero, guiding light. This book helped me. When I feel 'or imagine' my balance is imperfect, (mainly now just due to some muscle tension, air pollution causing sinus in my city) I think of his experience, encouragement and I calm down, make it through the day. Later, feeling fine I think; the past is the past, don't 'think' yourself backward. Thanks Mr. Sorbo. One of the things I admire is how Kevin kept working. He kept going to work much of the time he was struggling through this problem. He got married during this difficult time. (Check out what his natural doctors taught him. Interesting.) This is a real family man. A sweet guy in love with this wife, children and cute little dog. He also cares for his fans, would sign autographs even when he was feeling very sick, dizzy like he might fall down.I like the parts of the book written by his wife Sam. Check out her 'riddle'.Comedy; The man with the beer belly in the gym trying to bully Kevin.Interesting work... with Gianni Versace. Whoooa. The real word of actors, actresses and the movie, TV people.Kevin and Sam on a walk, meet a little boy playing outside, looks like Kevin... Brings back such a sweet memory and connection to 2 different ways most all humans feel, think during certain times in their life.Along with the look, soothing... feel of the cover; the book has a nice scent to it; like the wood the paper is made from is fresh cut, a special type of wood and/or the jacket smells nice, like a combination of two sources.A while before I saw Kevin Sorbo on the TV series Hercules my heart was broken by the most handsome Italian Man in the world! He did not like me back in that way. For about 1 year I walked the alleyway in South San Francisco, CA to avoid Aldo. I felt so ugly. (still love him)As we all grow older and realize that chemistry and...? sometimes makes us feel, think we are 'in love', I realized my feelings for Aldo may have been?? I still don't know. Walking roundabout to avoid Aldo's store in So. City for about a year, then one day there was a new TV show, 'Hercules, The Legendary Journey's!' Adventure, danger, love, facing and rising above, 'controlling' fear, and the bad guys in this world. I saw Kevin 'Hercules' beautiful face. Aldo no longer had power over me. No more walking through the alley like a wimp. One of my fav TV episodes is when Herc's evil brother Aries attacks him and after meeting sprits, Hercules frees all the trapped sprits so they can go to heaven. 'Ghosts' of people that died, whom Aries was holding prisoner. On page 195 the Author mentions he went to a eye doctor that said he can cure Kevin's blind spot in his vision, stating he teaches 'The Bates Method'. Myself and others have used the true Bates method successfully for years. BUT: you must seek a true teacher. Many people, doctors have corrupted it and teach it wrong. This doctor was teaching Kevin a 'Artificial' 3--D exercise. This is not the Bates Method. This type of 3-D 'also called Magic Eyes, autostereograms' can cause double vision, strabismus, blur. It's only for treating Strabismus and it must be done a specific way for each individual person's condition with the doctor's directions. It is not always effective. The true Method by Ophthalmologist Bates teaches a different practice that is safe, effective.Dr. Bates books and magazines 'true method' are on-line free. I hope the author reads this review and give the method a try. There are also modern Bates practices such as left and right brain hemisphere activation, integration with body movement and other exercises. If the eyes have had cornea Lasik or other surgeries, cataract surgery with prescription artificial lens implant it might conflict with Natural Eyesight Improvement, Bates method resulting in blur. The doctor should have explained this. Masny teachers, doctors do not warn about this. They only want money for lessons. Some doctors goofed up and increased Kevin's health problems. Later, different doctor's treatments helped. The medical profession really needs to straighten out their act! So many cures are hidden. It's all about the $.Now Kevin is on Facebook, Twitter, News, TV... strong and brave as he has always been, helping others conquer and go forward. He is a powerful voice in political and other issues. Speaks what many only think.See Mr. Sorbo's video Part 1 and 2 and others on YouTube; Chiropractic Stroke Channel, few news... channels. Did his Chiropractor cause the stroke by twisting Kevin's neck, even though Kevin told him he does not like it, made it clear to never twist his neck. Read about 'The Voice', God's warning.(The neck manipulation was a unbalanced one sided turn. Many people are complaining about this, it is often the cause of severe injury, death. Even a normal balanced left, right turn, pop can result in injury, stroke, death. They also do this to the spine, hips; unbalance them; this brings the patient back for endless treatments. The BIG SECRET chiropractors and the chiropractic Board, Colleges won't tell you about. Contact Medicare; They tell the truth, amount how many complaints a chiropractor has against them. How many naive people never report this?) Thank-you Kevin for the videos stating the truth. This definitely prevents many people from being harmed. I prefer Physical Therapy, Massage (by a good, honest one).

Courageous and Inspirational. An incredible book!
Over a year ago, I suffered a stroke-like condition which left my world upside-down. I have been on the road to recovery since this time. I have had a myriad of tests, but doctors have never been able to pinpoint what happened. I was left with traumatic cognitive difficulties, adrenaline rushes, panic attacks, effervescent feelings all the time as though my body is carbonated and more. Since I have no diagnosis, I have no recovery plan and have been trying to do so on my own. Of course, this has left me bewildered and depressed. This illness struck out of the blue with a lightning bolt to the head and my life was changed forever. Then, I was inspired to turn on a particular TV show. Something from the Universe (God?) told me to turn on the TV right at that moment. And guess who was the guest. Kevin Sorbo talking about his book "True Strength". He spoke about what happened to him, his struggles, the strength he has acquired and where he is now. His story mimicked mine and I bought the book right away. I am so glad that I did!Kevin's story is my story. All of the health trauma, the emotional trauma, the descriptions of feelings that one goes through when this happens to him or her is so right-on. It is a very scary and bewildering time. I would like to thank Kevin for writing this book. I am so sorry that this happened to him, but I am so grateful that he wrote about it. His story has helped me immensely. He is a fantastic and engaging writer who is an inspiration--all the more incredible because of the strokes. There are stories of seeing different practitioners with life-changing advice that he relates, from psychiatrists to chinese healers and more. All of these have helped my situation. And the tribute he gives to his wife, Sam, and his children is so poignant. She has as much true strength as he does by wanting to stay by his side in spite of this illness. This is not just a broken leg that will heal. This is brain trauma that can suck your soul out. She had the choice to run before they were married and she stuck by him. What a love story! And let's not forget about Giz, the sweet little doggy of pure love. I have recommended this book to many people. It is one of the best books I have ever read--even better because it's real.Thank you, Kevin. Yours is a true story of strength, courage and hope. I wish you the very best in the rest of your life. I would like you to know that through you, I have more hope as well, for my continued recovery.

Very informative
I watched Hercules when I was younger. This book gave a lot of insight into Kevin's life & struggles he endured with his health & his fight to bounce back. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Very interesting personal story and obviously well planned/edited
I recommend this book, which is a bit of a surprise; I did not expect it to be high quality. This is a very well-written book. The effort the authors/editors made was obvious. Regular personal touches/stories to maintain a sense of connection with the authors and reader interest, 0 grammatical mistakes in the entire book (a nice change), and a well-done outline. Sections written by other people who knew Kevin added perspectives and interest; the section by Michael Hurst stood out as particularly well done.Changing time perspectives and anecdotes prevented the book from becoming negative, despite what was in fact no doubt a massive trial. Some readers may be disappointed that there is no magic "I'm now 100% healthy" moment, but that is due to this being reality rather than a TV movie. Kevin's choice to focus on his improvements is great.

I highly recommend this book to all
Never knew that while I was watching Hercules years ago, Kevin was going through all these problems, I read the book in two days because I couldn't put it down, I wish him well and hope he is fully recovered. I highly recommend this book to all.

A true 'from triumph to tragedy and back again' story.
A very frank and honest account of a deeply moving life changing event. Mr Sorbo regales us with his highs and lays bare his lows. For a long time few knew of his personal struggles and that was how he wanted it. I certainly had no idea. I'd long admired him as an actor, which was why I was interested to hear he'd written an autobiography, my favorite form of non-fiction. Now I admire him a whole lot more as a human being. His struggle with ill health could easily have destroyed a lesser man. Kevin reveals all, and doesn't sugar coat the negative reactions it brought out in him and the effects it had on those around him.It could be maudlin, but Kevin makes it life-affirming. He is the living embodiment of Churchill's advice "when you're going through Hell, keep going." A true 'from triumph to tragedy and back again' story.I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys autobiographies, and anyone who has enjoyed Mr Sorbo's performances, though I would caution that there is some swearing near the beginning.
