Not a bad movie, but extremely dated. The fight for independence is dealt with in a romantised way, staying a distance away from the real cruelty on both sides of the fence. For the real story, read Rkbert Ruark's Uhuru. Great performance in particular by Sidney Poitiers.

i saw this when i was just a kid about 40-50 years ago, it made a very real impression and i have looked for the movie til it just surfaced recently. qualiy is good and story is one you will NEVER forget, because it is based on fact, the mau mau revolt of the 1950s.

One of my favorite movies. The book is out of print, so I am very happy to have this.

made in tne book of the same title reflecting the times in those frightening times of the Mau Mau emergency - 8 years. a bit watered down on the actual situation, but worth the while adding to one's "library"!

Originally read the story when I was much younger and it has stayed with me for many years. Really enjoyed this adaptation and having reconnected with the story which covers friendship, love , war ,violence, loyalty and cruelty. Great one
