Just get it
If you have a D5300, this is one of the best things you can buy. It is small enough to fit into your camera bag and it is full of valuable information. I used to take a lot of pictures with my old 35mm SLR back in the day. I have been looking at DSLRs for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger. I ordered this book at the same time as the camera and the book came several days earlier (thanks Amazon Prime!). It gave me some time to look through the book and when the camera did arrive, I was ready to go out and give it a dance. I keep this book next to the camera and am constantly referring to it. For some reason, my camera came with only a Japanese manual so this little book has been a great help.If you have the D5300 I highly recommend you get this book.

Wonderful Manual
First throw away your User's Manual that came with the D5300. Second get your favorite cup of coffee or your favorite brew. Third grab your D5300 and Fourth find your most comfortable chair! This is an info packed guide to the D5300 applicable to novice and seasoned photographer. It is laid out nicely and logically and if you rush thru it you might get a bit overwhelmed my advice is to take your time and enjoy the journey you will be greatly rewarded and will be able to negotiate all the wonderful details of the NIkon D5300. This is also a guide you will want to place in your camera bag for future reference.

It provides the field component of an excellent reference set
This book is essential for anyone starting to use the Nikon D5300 DSLR. It is very well organized and allows one to absorb the material in 'bite-sized' pieces. Together with the Nikon D5300 Crash Course Training Tutorial DVD.produced by Michael Maven it gives the individual new to the camera the material needed to get started to use it immediately with minimal fuss. It provides the field component of an excellent reference set. The best section is how to adjust the controls and settings to one's specific ideas on how to shoot pictures. It is certainly superior to any of the other books I have found on the subject.

Great manual for your camera
If you're looking for a photography guide, this isn't it. If you're looking for a quick manual for your Nikon d5300, this is the book for you. I'm sure you could probably find most of what's in this guide in the users manual of your camera. I like this format much better and it's not so big that I can't carry it around in my camera bag. I found this book incredibly useful in the first few weeks I owned my camera. Now it's in my bag and I rarely use it. I'm glad I have it, but I'm also glad that I've become familiar enough with my equipment that I simply don't need to use it as often.

Great field guide for great camera. Nice size to carry in camera bag. Would buy again!
Davis Busch is the leading field guide writer from everything I have read and I have read another one he had written on a different camera. This is a perfect size to leave in camera bag to have with you as the full size one, which I have also, is over an inch thick and is wonderful!I bought the field guides along with the Dummies guide for the D5300 before I actually bought the camera and still believe that is a good idea. You won't be disappointed with this or the complete guide. Worth the price!

Nice Companion Book
I carry this with me when I bop around town - it is an easy reference guide and wonderful companion to the main "Guide" book on this camera. I recommend this author to anyone looking for excellent, easy to read and follow information on a particular camera with shooting tips to boot. The education gained is well worth the price of the book.

Meh.
Durable materials for bringing your Nikon manual out with you just in case, but really didn't provide much of a "guide" as it reads nearly identical to the paper manual you receive with the camera, dry and technical. I was hoping for more of a user friendly instruction language and maybe a few tips.

Good, not great
This is a good overview of the D5300. While little more than the information in the Nikon manual is presented, it is more "user friendly". I have previously used the "Magic Lantern" series of books to learn new cameras, but there was not one available for the D5300. While saying that this book was "good", the Magic lantern series is a step ahead.
