Strong Heroine
The smooth development of the storyline while introducing the world of Arcane and J&J enticed me into the read, but it was the strong heroine and the romance that enriched the plot. Good read.

Great Story of Outsiders
FIRED UP Is the first book in the Dreamlight Trilogy and also the seventh book in the Arcane Society series. The Arcane series is about those with paranormal talents who have secret society. That society is in danger for an internal foe who are using a formula to enhance talents for criminal purposes. The series spans three time periods: historicals (Amanda Quick), contemporaries (Jayne Ann Krentz) and futuristics (Jayne Castle). The Dreamlight Trilogy is part of the series and can be read independent of the other books (although the books are better in context of the entire series). The Dreamlight Trilogy focuses on the descendants of Nicholas Winters who altered his DNA in pursuit of enhanced paranormal abilities. Some of his male descendants are in danger of insanity if they don't find the Burning Lamp and the woman who can help work the lamp in order to control the Winter talent.FIRED UP is a contemporary story about Jack Winters, who has begun to have nightmares and blackouts. He hires Chloe Harper, a private detective, to find the Burning Lamp. Jack also knows that Chloe has the power to work the lamp. Chloe's talent has left her alone because she cannot bear to sleep in the same room with anyone. That has made her romantic relationships difficult. She knows that something is different about Jack and the two find themselves in danger from those who want to kill Jack and take the Burning Lamp. This is a great romantic suspense book. The story is exciting and moves very quickly. The romance is satisfying and emotional. Jack and Chloe are clearly meant for one another. For readers of the Arcane series, this book adds a new layer of story. Most of the books have focused on the Jones family and the society. This book is about those on the outside and yet have a connection with society. One of my favorite parts of this book is getting to see Fallon Jones. He has a great book which is the next contemporary book in the Arcane series. This book introduces his romance story.

Good
Jack Winters is a Paranormal strategy talent that fears he is coming into a second talent, one that will turn him crazy. It’s a genetic inheritance that can only be helped with the aid of an alchemical lamp, and a dreamlight reader.Chloe Harper is a P.I., and a dreamlight reader. When Jack hires her to find his missing lamp, it starts them on a journey racing against agents from Nightshade, who want to use the lamp for their own ends.Book seven in the series is a continuation of the Nightshade arc of the story, where Fallon Jones of Jones & Jones is tracking the twenty-first century cabal using the Founder’s Formula. This is not a standalone book, but you only need to read the contemporary books to get this particular story arc- and this book will contain spoilers for that if you don’t read them first. It does mention the characters from Burning Lamp, which is book eight in the series, but takes place one hundred and fifteen or so years beforehand. And finally, it ends with a small setup for Fallon’s book (which is book ten in the series, but the next contemporary one in the series. This book also begins the first of two trilogies which not only unite all three of Krentz’s pen names, but begin the Jayneverse in a big way. This story, is chronologically the second in the trilogy- Burning Lamp in the Victorian era being the first chronologically, while it ends far into the future on the world of Harmony.Ultimately, it’s an enjoyable romp, with lots of action, a little paranormal talent, and of course some suspense when coming up against the agents of the big bad.A bit of romance, and some light humour to round it all out, and you have an entertaining read that paranormal romance fans will love.

Excellent author!
I rate Jayne Ann Krentz, Jayne Castle, and Amanda Quick (all the same author but of different time periods) as one of my very favorite authors. The Dreamlight Series is from the larger Arcane Series. They are all excellent and entertaining. The plots are unique with interesting characters. Enjoy this and all the others from the Arcane Series.

Works better than a dish soap to "take me away!"
In a series of books, I like to start at the beginning and work my way though chronologically. I think it's fun to see a name and/or situation referred to and remember the story from the other book--I feel like an insider. However, in this series, I haven't read the books that are set in the past (written by her pseudonym Amanda Quick)--not my style (although I think it's really cool that she writes the series from three different perspectives, because then there's something for everyone)--but information that's important to the current storyline is summed up, so if you do miss a book or two, you'll figure it out.Is the book predictable? In the sense of the romance--meaning will it end happily ever after?--the answer is yes. But that is 100% what I'm looking for; I find it satisfying--and I want to know I'll be satisfied--that the hero and heroine will end up happily ever after. But there's also plenty of suspense to keep the plot line from being dry. For me, what makes the suspense fun is the chemistry between Jack and Chloe.I've already read it twice, and it's still on my bookshelf, so I'll be picking it up again in the future.

One of the better books in the Arcane series
I've read JAK (aka, AQ and JC) for several years and have enjoyed her books. The Arcane books were getting boring for me - not that they were written badly, just too predictable. This one held my interest until the end and had me wanting to read the next in the series. The last chapter wasn't typical of JAK's style and I liked it. JAK had mentioned in a blog it was a challenge to write the contemporary of this trilogy first, instead of the historical - but I think it was to the readers advantage. It might have made JAK think outside her writers "box".

A Great Read
Loved this fast paced intriguing storyline. Love all the Arcane Society books and not disappointed with this one. Even though a standalone book, better to read Burning Lamp first due to some references made about the main characters in the book .

Brilliant
This was my first JAK book and I am well impressed so much so I went and got the first 5 Arcane novels in the series and have yet to be disappointed. I am thrilled to have found a new author that from everything I have read to date will not let me down. As a big Nora Roberts fan I would recommend Jayne Ann Krentz to all who like her books. She gets the right balance between romance and mystery.

J'attends avec impatience the burning lamp. Un très bon de la série, mais pour la première fois il vaut mieux avoir lu les précédents pour comprendre les finesses du livre : il y a beaucoup de références au passé et aux personnages des livres précédents. (white lies, second sight, sizzle and burn, the third circle, running hot,the perfect poison)
