The World of Athens: An Introduction to Classical Athenian Culture (Reading Greek)
A**C
A good introduction to Athenian history for anyone traveling to Greece for more than a week.
This is a good history even for students and non-students alike. It is well worth reading if for no other reason than it can clarify or reenforce why our Greco-Roman heritage is so important.

Excellent book - why no Kindle version?!
The book itself is excellent as a background learning resource for the Beginning Greek set by the same folks. But those books are all available electronically, which is vital to their convenience and success as self instruction materials. The reason I'm docking this a star is because it doesn't mesh as well with the rest of the set as it would if a Kindle version existed.

Reference material, not a good read
What is it about much University educational texts that demand the substitution of interest, inspiration and creative writing for little more than a bland listings of analytical fact? This books is as effective an "introduction" to classical Athenian culture as a Walmart inventory would be an introduction to 21st Century Western Culture.Thank Zeus this wasn't part of my education. It would undoubtedly have rendered stillborn a lifelong fascination. On the other hand, the book would probably be easily absorbed and quickly excreted by accounting, engineering and advertising students.
