The Ghost Backstage #3 (The Haunted Library)

I use the Haunted Library books to teach ESL students, ages 8-12. They are the PERFECT book for teaching english as a foreign language. The main character is of course a ghost and not familiar with "human" activities, which are explained to him by his friend, Claire. It really helps reinforce new language with the students, and they love the mysteries. It's not scary - the ghosts are the ones who are scared of people! Charming, easy to read, consistent grammatical structures, great vocabulary, trendy for younger students, and a great reading confidence booster - I want 100 more books just like this for the classroom.

I'm not sure how we came across the first book of this series but since reading it with my son my wife and I have since purchased them all. They all seem very age appropriate in both context and difficulty. They're attention holding and enjoyable (reading is by no means my son's favorite past time), especially for anyone who enjoys mysteries. They are on par with the Cam Jansen mystery series. I would recommend for second or even third graders.

This series of books is fun and keeps you wanting to know more about what is going to happen next. They turned to my son from the standard reader to a kid who really enjoys reading and looks forward to the next book! The series has AR numbers and runs between 11000 and 14000 words per book. It made it quick for him to add up his numbers in his third grade class

I have two little girls (6 & 8) who absolutely love this series of books. The even better part is I really like the books too. So it makes story time fun for all of us. It's a really cute interesting story that keeps them wanting another chapter. So I guess the only bad thing is it makes them whine when I say that's it for tonight. :-)
