The Illustrated World of Tolkien

My husband is really into LOTR stuff and especially art so he was stoked to get this and seems to really love it so far. It’s a nicely bound book as well, looks great on a coffee table or study desk. Really nice find!

if you are looking for a book including many artists' artistic concepts of JRR tolkiens people, places and things , then look no futher. the art work is amazing ! i am so glad i bought this book. i love it !

I expected this book to be only OK, since it wasn't original art for the middle earth books.I was wrong. This book is amazing! The artwork is very high quality. I could look at each picture again and again and see new details. I loved the art.And then there is the text. Brief stories of how the art came to be. Brief explanations by the artists of their motivation. Brief histories of how the artists came to be involved.After starting this book, I had a really hard time putting it down.If you're a fan of Tolkien, you should get this book.

Good book

I know David Day takes liberties a bit when it comes to die-hard Tolkien purists, but after seeing what others did with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Day is looking a lot better to me. It's a beautiful tome, with the expected plethora of illustrations and well-thought-out text.

Saw this book at bookstore afew months ago...looked through it and made a note to remember it for a family member who is a big Tolkien fan. Found the book on Amazon for a birthday gift. It was as good as I remembered and enjoyed by the reciever. Lots of different artists with different styles and interpretations of Middle Earth.

Love the book! Had to add it to my collection of Tolkien Books by David Day!! So beautiful, all of the art is amazing and I love that it is collaborative involving the words of the artists not just their art. So of the art I had seen in other books of his but some was also new. And bc the other books were not specifically about the art and what the artist was portraying from their perspectives and own words it was good that some was repeated from other books to now understand it better! The book made me want to create some of my own Tolkien art!! I wish there were maps that artists had created... other than Tolkien himself’s maps and a few atlases I have, I have not really come across an artist doing creative maps for Tolkien’s works! That should be in David Days next book!! The book itself is worth the money just because of how nice the cover and pages are printed.

Originally bought the book from Costco (USA) as a Christmas present for my grandson in Belgium. Because of postage, VAT, Customs Duty and who knows what else, we decided to order another copy from Amazon DE and avoid all the red tape. The cover was different, but the book is the same and thankfully it's in English and not German. Haven't read it, but the illustrations are beautiful.
