Bummer!
Received TV Ears package Friday. Next morning, read instructions, went to product site furnished by manufacturer, followed instructions, nothing happened. Re-read instructions, 2nd try, nothing. The headset fitted into the charging stand very loosely, Had to rattle around before contact (loose) was made. Green light came on, but no reception. Several more attempts gave same result, even following manufacturer's www instructions. Item appeared to have been setting on shelf for a while (dusty). Further attempts today.

Real life saver for my mom
I've bought about 10 or more of these headsets for my mom who lives in an assisted living center. She shares a room with another patient. My mom is very private and having to watch her favorite shows in the same room with another person always bothered her. I found this headset system about a year ago. It's perfect for her because she can listen in complete privacy. The TV volume can be all the way down, but her headset is a loud as she wants it to be. She has serious arthritus in her arms and hands, so the plastic headset design is really easy for her to put on and take off. Only problem is the ear pieces seem to break off if she's not really careful. It can be a hazzle for me too because I have to get them fixed immediately for her. So, I currently have two sets always charging for her and a third for her to use. That way, if one breaks, she has immediate replacements. Honestly, these headsets have made the single most largest daily life time improvement for my mom.

Not Pleased with the TV Ears
I was having a temporary hearing problem, so I ordered TV Ears to help with my hearing situation.I have a SONY Smart TV and a VIZIO Sound Bar.The unit came without the cable that connects the TV Ears base to the TV, so I had to purchase that cable. Then I found there was only one place to plug it in on the TV but that connection required that I disconnect the sound bar. That would not be good for my wife. There was no place to plug it in on the sound bar.So I have not sent it back but it still works the same if it's plugged in or not.So I do not recommend purchase of the TV Ears until you find a place where you can plug the base into the TV..

Wow! Nice! I like TV Ears!
Exactly what I wanted! Now, I can listen to the television at my level of comfort without other people telling you to turn down the television. My mother lives with us now and she will be using the TV ears the most due to her hard of hearing. We can hear the television at a comfort level, but then Mom says "I can't hear the television, can you turn it up a level?" Now, we are talking about a very loud television sound! Setup was easy, I am listening to the television using TV ears as I am writing this review. I had no idea what to plug the plugs into into the back of the TV receiver because I have no idea if those plugs are digital or analog, so I just plugged the two plugs into the top ones. I listened with the TV ears and I could hear lots of humming sounds, so I plugged the plugs into the plugs just below and no humming sounds! I am happy now! With the TV ears you can really turn the volume up, I had the volume set on pretty low for me, but it could definitely go louder if I wanted. I would definitely recommend TV Ears.

No Good for Older User
Two stars because I have a friend whose mom loved hers. They make analog and digital versions. This is the analog version, although the description tells you almost nothing and the technical description says "microphone." They also do not tell you that you need a TV that has red-white-yellow OUTPUTS. Most current TVs DO NOT have these outputs. We ended up making it work by purchasing a stereo RCA to phono plug adapter. Many TVs do not have a phono plug either, so check before you buy.We could not use these:1. They have very little padding and are tight on everyone, so they poke your ears. Ours were uncomfortable although not painful as some reviewers have experienced. Apparently, they can be stretched somewhat, but we didn't try since they were not useful anyway.2. The signal requires a perfect line of sight between the headphones and base. If you turn your head or something passes between you and the transmitter, audio is replaced by loud static sound. This did not work for my geriatric mom.3. The big problem is inadequate volume. When the TV sound is set to a high but tolerable volume and the TV ears set to max volume, they were still too quiet for my mother, who is hard of hearing. With normal hearing, I could hear them fine at max volume, but they certainly do not produce much sound even at highest setting.Purchased a set of RF headphones which were cheaper, had much better sound, strong volume and worked everywhere in the room.

Poorly executed, overpriced, obsolete technology
Pros:When you are wearing this, it will be impossible for people to think you're not an ancient person.Cons:This set is made of plastic that feels cheap and flimsy. The foam earpieces are giant and really hurt the ears. There is a lot of static even if you are sitting right in front of the transmitter base.It uses infrared so you need to maintain a line of sight to the transmitter. The battery life is incredibly short, around 20-30 minutes. It's way too expensive for what you getAlternatives:Get a bluetooth transmitter and a bluetooth headphone. You get great sound quality, you can walk around and do other things, and you can get a set of headphones that fits you. This can often be done for less money than buying this set.Transmitter: Bluetooth 4.0 Transmitter TaoTronics Wireless 3.5mm Adapter Dongle (High-Fidelity Stereo, Plug and Play via USB or AUX Input, Charging while Playing for TV & iPod) Headset: SoundPEATS Q800 Universal Wireless Music Stereo Bluetooth Headset - Black
