The Freddie King Collection

As 5 star as it gets
There were a couple of stingy reviewers who, by their comments, appeared to like it and voiced no concern but only gave 3 or 4 stars; to each their own, but...Freddie King tragically died two young, but by many accounts was more creative and virtuosic than the other blues greats like B.B. and Albert. Clapton revered and only tried to emulate Freddie. One of the things I like the most about Freddie is that he wasn't just blues, a lot of his stuff was very rockin and also had a strong Texas and Country electric blues thing going. If you want to be a serious rock and roll guitarist (as apposed to the whiny grunge that passes for rock these days for the younger crowd), I would recommend equal parts Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, and Freddie King.As for the book, I've been living with 5 of the tabs for quite a few months, just about have the key parts note for note, and they are spot on. Really, what more can you want out of life? There are a few books out there like this and some of Wolf Marshall's Stones transcriptions that are as close to an instruction manual on how to be a rock or blues god as you're going to get; the rest is up to you! Also, nice selection of songs. One critique would be the songs are mostly earlier Freddie, would love to find some tab of more of his 70's stuff.

Freddie is the King.
I wasn't a huge Freddie King fan but I have learned so much about his style of blues playing by purchasing this book. If you like Hendrix, SRV, Clapton or any blues based rock guitar, you should get this book and listen to some Freddie King. Really shows how these guitarists were influenced by King and other blues players. I have really gotten into this music after learning some songs and riffs. If you do buy this don't skip over the short bio on King's playing, it has some good info. No pick, thumb and pluck.

Fun Stuff
The instrumentals are all enjoyable to play, yet still challenging for an intermediate player like myself (I settled on learning most at about 3/4 speed). Any one of his 3-measures-long 'licks' make for a good aerobic exercise for your fingers. Unfortunately its impossible to hunt down all the songs in this book, I've only been successful finding the instrumentals. I highly recommend this book especially if you're looking for something fun to practice. You get a nice sense of accomplishment each day. The type of boost most players need when in a rut.

Pure Blues
Great book to start learning the blues from. Good tabs and some classics with "Hide Away" and "San Ho Zay".

great music book look for Freddy King Sings
great guitar book focuses on the early Freddy King. A great companion cd is the Freddy King Sings cd that also contains the instrumental album Let's Hideaway and Danceaway. This excellent cd contains pretty much all that is in the book and note my spelling of Freddy is corect for the early music.

Very Accessible Tab
This was one of my first tab books and I really enjoyed it because Freddie's compositions are fairly easy for an intermediate player to use. The only downside is that it only includes songs from his earlier years.

Perfect tabs
This book is fantastic, excellent layout, accurate tabs and all the right songs are included, nothing to complain about here.As with all tab books the main question is - is it worth spending the money compared to free tabs available online - yes, definitely!I would have given it 6 stars if it included a set of finger picks.Includes a short intro on Freddie and the following songs, Full Time Love, Have You Ever Loved a Woman, Heads Up, Hide Away, Tore Down, If You Believe, In the Open, Lonesome Whistle Blues, Sad Nite Owl, SanHoZay, See See Baby, Side Tracked, The Stumble, Wash Out, You've Got to Love Her With a Feeling

tis a good book
The only thing that would make it better would be if more tabs were included and if pictures of your mum were included as well

Some obvious and non-obvious choices
When this book arrived I was initially disappointed as there were some obvious tracks missing (such as "Goin' Down") ans several that I didn't know (and couldn't find as downloads on Amazon - I will not name the rival company who eventually saved the day). The net result is that I've discovered some Freddie King tracks that I didn't know, several of them instrumentals which further help you to understand the great mans playing. I ended up being very pleased with the purhase - if it had had "Goin' Down" I'd have given it five stars. As a P.S., having seen Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood, Walter Trout and Joanne Shaw Taylor perform this song in the past year, it does seem to be the song of the year and asad omission.
