I loved it entirely
My review of this encompasses my opinion on the whole trilogy, and as a fantasy trilogy, I loved it entirely. I need to read more in the epic fantasy trilogy sphere of books, but this was a tight, well plotted, well written trilogy that never grew on my nerves. I hear many fantasy trilogies have a great first book with the next two of varying quality (Blood Song and Age of Iron come to mind, and there were good things and bad to say about all of those books). The Demon Wars saga, at least the first 3 (that I've read, and I thought of it as complete with book 3) were some of the best I've read. I'm not as well read as I would like to be, but that's because of factors outside of my control, basically. The Demon Wars trilogy, ie books 1-3, I've gone back to a few times. I finally bought them recently, and it didn't cost much. They might be old-fashioned, but in an era where a lot of stuff is kinda bad, I think old-fashioned is okay, especially when it's written better than more popular works. That isn't to say that popular = bad, but when a creative project like a fantasy series is dictated by money, well...Salvatore paints a great world here. He's given his own setting to work in, which is pretty amazing for a D&D author. I think because of their trust in him at this point, he was free to do what he wanted, and he did splendidly. The protagonist was human, which was usual for D&D authors but unusual for Salvatore, because he was famous for Drizzt. But I don't think that overshadowed Elbryn and his friends.I liked that the MC was a human ranger, his mentor was a magic-stone-wielding monk, and that his gf was a bit of both. I liked that character dynamic. I liked their stories, I liked the conflict, how it took on different forms (demon in one body, a demon spirit, and a demon possessing the head of an order) and I liked many of the supporting characters. I think Salvatore was allowed to flex his story-telling muscles in ways D&D might not have allowed him to. And I think he did quite well!

Very good epic
I usually get lost and bored with books this long...but not this one. It was non-stop adventure from the first page. It draws you in, gets you hooked, then hold on for a wild ride. There is lots of action, heros, villians and it all keeps your attention. I got it for free, but it's a must read!!!

Classic R.A.
A completely different story from the drrzt series but yet the same flavor. A very long book and satisfying one. I'm surprised there are two more in for this story. Just the one was more than satisfying. I don't understand how there can be two more lol. But I look forward to reading them. I read some other non drrzt series from R.A. and they were decent. More PG-13 rated but this, like I said in review title, is classic R.A. Salvatore. Probably even better in some ways.....

It's boring, very boring
I loved R.A. Salvatore's drow books when I was a teenager, but I think I've simply completely outgrown his writing style and character development.I think what killed me in this book was the female character. I think her story was very poorly written. For that matter, the ranger story was pretty cliche as well. The monk's story was interesting, but I put this book down about 1/3 of the way through because I simply didn't care enough about the other characters to continue reading. Plus, it's R.A. Salvatore so it's not like there were going to be any big surprises. He's a good writer who I've simply outgrown as I pass through my 40s.

Enjoyed the storyline.
As with most of his books this one allowed me to forget my daily worries and struggles. It allowed me to adventure into his world, intriguing me till the end.

An inspiring tale
The demon came upon the land and faith was the answer. I hope Pony and Elbryan are not done yet!

Amazing opening to an epic saga
I love this book, it is a timeless novel, and a fantastically detailed and immersive world. Thoroughly recommended for fantasy/adventure fans, especially Tolkien fans.
