Diabetic Friendly, but Fancy
OK this is the cookbook to find Sunday Brunch or Sunday dinner recipes in. It says it is quick and easy, well, after you have shipped the entire grocery store for your ingredients and planned time to make the recipe. Many of the meals sound very good, and are indeed balanced well for a diabetic diet, however there is some work involved in the preparation and cooking time. Don't get me wrong, not everything in the book is foodie fare, there are some simple comfort food recipes and some of the breakfasts sound wonderful, but again time is needed and finding the ingredients may not be simple. I give it a like though because they are for 1 to 4 people and that is what I was looking for, so hard to cook for one.

Good basic cookbook
This is a good basic cookbook whether or not one is diabetic. This is not gourmet but basic good food, most of which can be prepared relatively quickly. Not all of the dishes are from scratch which can be a plus if you are not into alot of cooking but a minus if you dislike most commercial prepared foods. Nice variety of dishes and all have nutritional information, saves lots of time for diabetics! The meal plans in the back are based on a fairly sedendary life style, so if you are active forget about these plans (or increase the portion sizes).

Not Just For Diabetics
I purchased this book because I was going out with a fellow who had diabetes. Funny thing was about the time the book arrived I stopped seeing him. No sense letting a good cook book go to waste! What I discovered were delicious, easy to prepare meals that are healthy. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but my waistline seems to be shrinking just a bit.If you have a friend or family member who is diabetic they will love these wonderful meals. But even if you are not diabetic, and you just want to eat healthy meals that are economical, with minimal prep time, and taste good, try this cookbook.

From one of the best centers
Worth it! The Joslyn Center is suppose to be one of the best diabetic clinics in the states. Tons of useful info. Easy reading and good menus. The only downside for me, as I am not on meds or insulin, is that the carb count in alot of the meals are a bit higher than I would like. Of course, I make my own substitutions.

Joslin Cookbook
I'm not diabetic. But my sister-in-law told me a long time ago that if people really wanted to lose weight or control their weight, they should get a diabetic cookbook. So I did and I love it. There's tons of great recipes and information in it about calories and how our bodies use carbohydrates, etc. It also has a 2-week menu in the back for both 1200 calories a day and 1800 a day (for women and men). I've loaned it out several times and just recently had to get another one because I can't remember who I lent it to last.

2 Sections Diabetics Should Stay Away From
I was really looking forward to this book ... However, and maybe it's because I was just diagnosed, but, I was told to stay away from processed foods, and already, this cookbook called for all-purpose flour, white bread, and the likes .... I would have thought they would have used almond flour or something like that ... but NO, flour! Let's not forget the Pasta, Rice and Pizza section ..... SUGAR overload, here we come! Angel-Hair Pasta .... calling for dried angel-hair pasta .... How is that good for a diabetic with 66G of carbs and 8G of fibre, okay .... net 58 grams of carbs .... still! I wouldn't call these diabetic recipes .... I might call them low calorie ... but, not specifically diabetic. Maybe I'm missing something... Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree ... If somebody can shed some light, that would be awesome.... I'm willing to change my review ... but for now ... this is it..... I think anything over 28g of carbs in a single serving is pretty high, in a single meal ... especially when you have the whole day ahead of you ... OR you've already eaten and you're having your late lunch/dinner.

Best Cookbook in this genre
This is the best specialty diet cookbook I have ever used. The quesadilla recipe is out of this world. There are many recipes that are easy and tasty. A few I personally didn't care for, but overall it is worth its weight in gold. It is my cooking bible. I recommend it to everyone who wants to get healthy. It may be a diabetic cookbook, but I have MS and the change in my diet has helped. The Joslin Diabetes Quick and Easy Cookbook: 200 Recipes for 1 to 4 People

Review
Interesting book but would have liked some of the recipes to be for 1 or two portions. Also would have liked more recipes that would not require so many ingredients. When you are cooking for one, especially, you will not have all the ingredients on hand because you might not use them often and they are costly if you only have limited use for them. You want to have the ingredients fresh.

A complete waste of time and money
This book is billed as:The Joslin Diabetes Quick and Easy Cookbook: 200 Recipes for 1 to 4 PeopleIt isn't. There is not even one recipe for one person in it. Not. even. one. The recipes are all for more than one person and the quantities and timings are such that even for a very experienced cook such as my self it is NOT possible to reduce them to quantities and timings for one. The recipes themselves are a bit dull. You can get far better cookbooks with far more interesting and easily cooked meals for more than one person aimed at diabetics very easily. You can also get far better cookbooks with far more interesting and easily cooked meals for just one person who has diabetes very easily. This book was a complete waste of time and money.A note on the service: The service from betterworld books was excellent. Not their fault that the publisher's description was so utterly misleading. The book arrived well packed and in good condition - it also arrived long before the estimated delivery date. I've always had an excellent service from this particular sell and give them my business in preference to others when I can.
