Don't get me wrong, it is a very well made wine opener. However, I got this for a friend after he fell in love with my ratcheting opener from Italy. This does not have the same design and seems like it is effectively a larger a nicer version of a waiter's table opener. For the price, look around for something a bit more unique.

While this does have a "ratcheting movement" as part of its construction, it is not a ratcheting movement that assists in opening the wine in any way shape or form. The movement actually makes the wine harder to open and the cork screw harder to use. Plus it is really hard to remove a cork from the screw, if you are successful in opening wine with this. This is a very poorly engineered opener. You should just by the ones they have hanging by the wine in the grocery store or you could do that thing where you hit the bottom of the bottle with a shoe until the cork comes out. I missed the window to return this junk and now its mine.... all mine.

I purchased this item as I am growing tired of cheap products made in China. Joke was on me - although it is advertised as being made in USA, it clearly says "Made in China" on the back of the box. I will be returning.
