Adornments: Sew & Create Accessories with Fabric, Lace & Beads

A well written, superbly illustrated book of millinery techniques used by a leading bridal milliner, Myra Callan, Twigs and Honey. Techniques are explained in good detail. I think the DIY bride will appreciate the skill and craftsmanship it takes to create one of Myra's exquisite pieces and unless they are extremely gifted, decide it is well worth the money to purchase the original piece of art from the designer. Finding just the right materials, tools and having the time to practice...well...after all that you will then know why quality millinery is priced as it is. I ordered the book for my own millinery library, then had a chance to preview it through KindleUnlimited. I plan on using the same flower making techniques in wool needle and wet felt.

Just letting beginners know that you need an electric milliners tool to heat shape the petals...otherwise, nice book! 3 and one half stars. I loved the comment in one of the reviews about the adornments being out dated....Style combines the new with the "outdated" to create something way cool. And the techniques are not out dated and can be modified to whatever is trendy at this moment. "High Fashion" is only a template for what the designers are creating now. One can always deviate in one way or another. In fact one should. Otherwise one carries a fashion yoke that is never quite cool no matter how closely the template is followed.

This book had a lot of great ideas and great instructions. I am going to look to see if this author has more books if not please write another book!!!

I originally bought this book because I love Elizabeth Messina who photographed all the images. But the projects themselves are so beautiful and inspiring. It not only got me excited for making these specific projects, which have clear and easy to follow instructions, but also got me excited for creating my own. It opened up the possibilities of what can be done and started me down the path of a whole new exciting world of creativity.I would highly recommend!

I think Myra is THE BEST at creating stunning bridal adornments. Her pieces are like a work of art. This book is perfect for the DIY bride who can't quite afford to spend $100+ on a hair piece/belt/etc or for any sewer of fashion lover who is looking to create beautiful headpieces, belts or pins. The directions are simple and stated in a way that anyone can create something beautiful (or at least try!).

the pictures are really pretty, and some of the projects include working with upcycled vintage millinery items which I think it's really great. it's a good starting point for who wants to try making handmade millinery adornments, but it would take years of practice and skills to reach Myra's level.

This book is awesome! It gives you the full step by step instructions on how to make fabric flowers and different adornment styles. This is definitely a great go-to guide. All the materials are listed and it's not a book that just lists out the steps. There are images to go along with the instructions which is so helpful. The photos in this book are amazing as well!

This is a nice book, a lot of projects I wouldn't make as I was looking for fascinators and headpieces only.

This is a lovely book, not least for the images. This book is not old fashioned as one reviewer described it...this review comment is unfair. The author sells her own designs based on these techniques, and it is techniques that she is revealing in this book. Her own shop sells much more intricate designs - why would she she you how to do them in her book? I agree that the flower making tools are expensive, but so is everything millinery-related. If you are just making one piece for yourself or a few pieces for others, then buy the pre-made silk flowers - they are just as beautiful and readily available...the author suggests that she does this too. I love this book and have made a few headpieces based on these techniques. Don't hesitate to buy it, it's great.

This is a truly lovely looking book with really clear instructions and inspiring imagery and projects. The only big disappointment is that the majority of the flowers are made using a hot iron, which has proved virtually impossible to find. To say to the reader "can be found on eBay" has proved to be misleading...I mean eBay has its uses but I only found one...the other side of the world, at huge expense. If all the purchasers of this book are looking for one of these irons.....that's a lot of confused people chasing a scarce item! The retailer recommended does have them, but they are very expensive, so to complete these projects would take major investment...and you might discover you are no good at it! Ah well, you could always re-sell the iron on eBay! Please let me know if you do....I'd be interested!

I have purchased this book particularly to learn how to create and shape flower petals and as an inspiration for other projects. I'm starting my own line of bridal accessory myself and this book was fantastic inspiration and guide to me. Finally I've learnt how to work with silk materials and recreate them into beautiful flowers as it shows on cover. This book is great for beginners as well as for someone, who is already experienced in making accessory. It shows the basic millinery techniques and tools, it is wonderfully explained and thanks to this book I happen to be in much higher level of bridal accessory world! I have purchased my millinery iron through eBay (It is easy to find) and couldn't be happier! Here and there I still have a peek into the book for an inspiration. Excellent choice!

The book it's self is good but trying to get some of the tools to try some of the projects are extremely difficult to find, but some lovely things ,and seems easy enough to follow if you get the equipment.

I was expecting more millinery projects. The projects in the book are very basic.
