Web 2.0 How-to for Educators

I purchased this book for Amazon Kindle. It is a must have for teachers that are looking to better integrate technology in the classroom. It isn't like one of those boring, techie literature books. It is teacher friendly for the least technological advanced person.This book is a wonderful resource for helping you understand the different Web 2.0 tools that are available for classroom usage with your students. Each chapter highlights a tool, offers reasons for why, when, and how teachers are using the tool to change student learning. Each chapter concludes with a section on how to get started and where you can find more information.The resources have been very helpful in getting me started with blogging for my classroom. I like how the book defines the tool and gives specific examples of how some teachers are using the tool. It gives other internet resources and specific steps on how to get started. I have only read two chapters, but I look forward to reading the remainder of the book to help me incorporate more technology usage within my classroom next school year.

I really believe this book is a must read for any educator wanting to integrate technology in their classroom. The book is very user-friendly and easy to understand. The author does an excellent job introducing a new concept, showing why it is useful, and demonstrating the concept in an actual classroom setting. What I liked most about the book is the way the authors presented the concept. They do not make the readers feel bad for being novices. Some books use highly technical terms that you need a dictionary and/or some other reference book to understand them. This book seems to celebrate the person's inexperience with the terms. After reading the book, you feel empowered and excited about implementing the concepts in your classroom. I have taken several technical classes and have read many different texts. This book is my favorite of them all. I recommend this to any educator wanting to take their classroom and teaching style to the 21st century. It will not only empower the teacher, but will empower the students as well.

This book introduces all of the latest trends in web-based tools and resources that have become essential in the 21st Century classroom. The authors do not assume that the reader has prior knowledge of Web 2.0, so they begin each chapter with a definition of the concept being addressed. Solomon and Schrum not only outline why these tools are useful, but they include comprehensive "how to's" for each section as well as caveats on misuses of these technologies. They also share many practical anecdotes and examples on how these tools are being used in classrooms, making the reader envision how Web 2.0 could look in a real world setting. I found the writing easy to comprehend for someone who is web friendly but not an expert. Best of all is Chapter 11, which is essentially a glossary of Web 2.0 tools the authors recommend for classroom use, organized by type of resource. The chapter is one-stop shopping at it's best. I highly recommend this book for any teacher who is looking to enhance their curriculum with Web 2.0 tools and resources.

I purchased since it was the required textbook for my education course and I have to admit I actually enjoy reading it. It is not only an easy read, but very helpful for someone pursuing a career as an educator. It is a terrific resource for educators who are integrating technology to the curriculum of their classroom. Not only does it provide technology resources but it also gives you ideas in how to incorporate the technology in your classroom. What I like most about it are the actual examples of how teachers have effectively used the technology in their classroom. I also find the step-by-step directions on how to get started very helpful as well. No way am I selling back this book, I plan on adding this book to my personal library!

Web 2.0: How to for Educators is in my opinion is an essential read for the 21st century educator. The book covers blogging, podcasting, vodcasting, Wiki's, Audacity, and many other useful Web 2.0 applications. I think it would be useful for schools to purchase the book for a book study in order to help prepare educators to use Web 2.0 on a daily basis. As educators we need to keep up with the demands with the ever-changing world around us and we also need to connect with our students knowledge base outside school. Web 2.0: How to for Educators is a good place for the novice Web 2.0 educators to start, as well as being useful for someone with Web 2.0 experience. The book is interesting and has advice for integrating Web 2.0 tools in the classroom.

As a school librarian, trying to keep up with the new realities of literacy in the 21st century, I found this book to be a great asset. I recommend it for any teacher, librarian, or parent as a guide for making the most of the web 2.0 tools that enhance education. The author starts each chapter with a very basic description of the tool she is discussing, then moves to educational uses of the product. Each chapter is full of web addresses and descriptions of the products that each offers. You can read in depth or scan for ideas. My only regret is that I purchased the Kindle version to save money. I still prefer to flip through pages when I have a book that I will use as a reference in the future.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I bought the kindle app version of the book. I love how there are links right there in the text. Oncle clicked it take you to a synopsis of the tool written about. With another click it takes you to the homepage of the web 2.0 tool. I teach 2nd grade and I'm always looking for tools to use to help engage my students. The book also gives you real life examples and suggestions to use in the classroom. I especially liked the chapter on bloggings and online discussing amongst students.
