The United Methodist Music & Worship Planner 2014-2015

This is something you either need or you don't and would have little or no value to anyone not planning worship. It might, conceivably, be of use to someone who is not a United Methodist but there are better resources for them.The UMC publishes several different aids to preparing worship services. Each has its strengths. I happen to like this one because I usually use the weekly lectionary. What makes this resource useful to me is that it includes the text of each lection along with lists of hymns, prayers and other resources that are tied to those lections. It won't give you a suitable collect from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer; it won't refference a hymn from the Lutheran hymnal but it will give a (usually) good selection from United Methodist resources. There is also room to scribble notes and I like the spiral bound format.

First time I have tried the Kindle version. I love the printed version. I like the format of the information with text broken out in boxes on one page and music on the opposite page. The electronic version looses the boxes and I miss that. I figure I will get use to the new format quick enough.

The translation used is not KJV or NKJV. At times it lacks inspiration due to the translation used. The contemporary songs recommended are 80% out-dated. Songs/hymns for traditional, liturgical church are good recommendations.

The Planner is a gift to a dear friend recovering from a stroke which gave her limited use of her right arm/hand. As the Planner is spiral bound, it lays flat as you flip the pages to locate the day's Lectionary scripture coordinating w/ meditation in The Upper Room Disciplines book. Keeps her uplifted!!

I have the e-version which does not allow for printing off of the pages. Not such a good deal when you are working with multiple scriptures at one time.

I purchased the Planner for the person in charge of Music and Worship at our Church. She was very eager to get the latest addition, she used her previous Planner all the time. Said it was one of the best things she could get her hands on.

Good but really wanted UMC "Prepare." Almost the same but Prepare seems better to help plan organmusic for other denominations.

I am a worship chairperson at my church. I find this book very useful in planning for all worship programs and seasons of the Christian year. It is a great resource.
