Eye-Catching Quilts: 16 Designs from the Experts at Quiltmaker Magazine

Visibly Extraordinary - Nice Collection For All Skill Levels
What makes Eye-catching Quilts so sight-worthy? The answer lies in the basic elements of striking color choices, original block construction, pleasing layouts, and motile quilting designs. 16 projects by seven different graphic designers, art directors, and editors of Quiltmaker Magazine are featured here, plus one project is identified as a "joint staff" effort. The first project, "Duette" - by Carolyn Beam - is lovely in red and taupe; it also includes directions for a doll-house sized quilt and incorporates the fast version of Flying Geese. Beam also designed my favorite "Raspberry Truffles" which is positively luscious with its pinks and browns in a very traditional setting. "Falling Leaves" - by Erin Wilcoxon - has an asymmetric block placement that mimics 3 different types of leaves wafting down to the ground. Diane Harris's "All Drezzed Up" updates the Dresden Plate block with punchy colors and a novel plate-within-a-plate construction. Theresa Eisinger designed the quilt on the cover; "Pinwheel Pirouette" employs vivid batiks and a few challenging technical maneuvers. All of the projects include charming quilting suggestions and many also have alternate color options. (I wish all quilting books did this!) And yes, there are many templates, Y-seams and setting in, and foundations. The largest project is Beam's "Pinwheel Party" which has 104 six-inch blocks; it finishes at 102.5 inches square. The smallest quilt is Theresa Eisinger's "Petit Jardin" at 18.5 by 21.5 inches; it features a foundation-based watering can and 2 sizes of foundation fowers. Some designs will challenge a few quilters, while others - such as June Dudley's "Nature's Embrace" - are beginner friendly, although with this particular one you will need to be careful aligning and managing the bulk of all those triangle seams.Very nice collection, although I do not know if any of these patterns have appeared previously. I like this book and love the patterns
I like this book and love the patterns. Unfortunately for me, I think a lot of these patterns are too advanced for my basic skills. I have never done foundation piecing, which is what many of these are. However, I plan to call my local quilt shop and ask that they give a class in foundation piecing. This book has a lot of beautiful patterns.

Lots of great patterns
I bought this for a single pattern and thought that would be it, but I've been very pleasantly surprised. There are several patterns in this book that I will be using. Contains paper piecing, traditional piecing, and applique.

Nice book
Book is filled with lovely and unique quilts to make. I would recommend this book for the intermediate/experienced quilter. Instructions are written for a quilter who knows the basics of quilt making. Lots of photos, good instructions and alternatives.

A bit deja -vu
Beautiful book, well presented but the models are not really something new. Was expecting some new ideas and for that was a bit disappointing for me.
