Carving Pumpkin

This pumpkin first served as a great Halloween decoration. We never got the chance to carve it but no worries, it wasn't undecorated. It had an Amazon fresh sticker for decoration. After Halloween, I finally cut into it to see if it was still good enough on the inside to cook with it. Everything I read on recent cooking blogs with pumpkins suggested not to bother with attempting using jack-o'-lantern. Or to only use "sugar pumpkins" for baking because they are sweeter. Well here's the thing, I prefer savory pumpkin dishes and I remember from my childhood growing big ole carving pumpkins in our backyard and using them for fall and winter recipes. I made some savory pumpkin hand pies for a get together that everyone LOVED! I had so much pumpkin that I ended up pureeing the rest and freezing most. I made some wonderful pumpkin soup a few days later. I roasted most of the seeds and finally just finished eating them yesterday. A few were sprouted so I put them in a pot of soil as an experiment to see if I could grow anything on my balcony. But alas, a bird dug them out and it served as a tasty snack for a feathery friend. And guess what? The puree still made a great pumpkin pie. Do not be discouraged by silly food bloggers. The pumpkin skin that couldn't be pureed served as a nice treat for my worms in my composting bin. Carving pumpkins are so much more than jack-o'-lanterns to be thrown out after Halloween. They are a delicious food with great fiber and nutrients. Next year, I think I'll paint one instead of intending to carve it.

It was a beautiful pumpkin and just the right size. Very fres: the pumpkin sat on the porch for more than 30 days uncarved. It was a delight to see!

Contrary to other reviews, this is not a pumpkin for carving, and don't let the word "jumbo" fool you. It's a tiny "pie pumpkin." If you're looking for something you can carve and illuminate such that trick-or-treaters can see it from the street, look elsewhere.I guess I'm going to make a pie out of it. I haven't tasted it yet, but sugar makes everything taste good so it doesn't really matter.

Perfect huge pumpkin for carving or just as decor for the autumn. Probably can make lots of pumpkin pies with it too.

The shopper picked the perfect size pumpkin for us. We carved it and roasted the pumpkin seeds.

I was worried that having someone else pick out my pumpkins would leave me with weird, bruised, or otherwise unsatisfactory experience, but I was completely happy with the selection made by the service.

Plenty big enough to carve, the pumpkin was in great shape.
