(Note that one of the bags in my box burst during shipping so I had oil all over everything. I had to clean the oil off of each individual bag, which is not a big deal, but was inconvenient)As alternative, you can just buy flavacol at Amazon and buy 'Snappy' brand 'butter burst' oil at amazon along with a good quality popping corn. The results will be the same - and perhaps a bit cheaper.After experimenting with various options, I've decided that what I like best is just a good quality pop corn such as Orville Redenbacker's (which you can get at Amazon in an 8 pound container) and pop it with ordinary vegetable oil. (I know many people say that coconut oil is the best for pop corn, but I can't tell the difference.) The only problem was the popcorn kept getting stuck and then they were getting burned. There were also a couple of people that said it was too salty so we only added 1/2 of the salt and it was perfect. We also had to do 1/2 the oil and kernels at a time so that helped to keep from burning the popcorn. Next time I will order the 6oz. Bag for the 8 oz container. The premeasured packets ensure a consistently good result every time. (Paragon no longer makes a 16oz packet.)Recently, we've started omitting the salt/flavoring from the second packet in each batch - theoretically cutting the salt content by 50% - this still results in great tasting popcorn and makes our salt-conscious guests happy.We find it easier to empty the oil into the kettle if the packets are at a warm room temperature. This makes the oil flow freely from the pouch, instead of having to try to push out a solid piece from the packet.The coconut oil in the packet means our guests with peanut allergies (ie: peanut oil) can usually have this. Coconut is noted as the best oil to use in these high heat popcorn machines.While the cost may be slightly higher to use these packets over purchasing bulk popcorn, flavoring (ie: Flavacol), and oil (ie: NaksPop "sticks"), we find this much easier to use, and get a much more consistent flavor - batch to batch.
