Poetry anthologies can be hit or miss. I love the categories Ella Risbridger has chosen and her commentary is akin to enjoying the poems with a good friend.

Easily my favorite poetry anthology
Ella Risbridger's approach to poetry is accessible, joyful, curious, and funny. In addition to introducing me to some truly wonderful poems and poets, this book has helped me read poetry in a new way. I loved it.

Risbridger's writing is life and this collection is exquisite
Ella Risbridger used to write a poetry column for the now defunct online publication, The Pool. It was the highlight of my reading life when it came out. She always picked interesting, usually unknown to me poems, and the way she wrote about them made me rush out and buy the poet's work, every, single, time. Risbridger is the most beautiful writer. If you haven't read her book, Midnight Chicken, you absolutely must. It is a recipe book, but it is so much more. This is a poetry anthology, but like Midnight Chicken, so much more. Risbridger annotates, and groups and writes about the poetry in such a fascinating way it constantly opens up new and exciting avenues of understanding and exploration. I have read this from cover to cover once already. It only came out three days ago. I shall read it over and over again in many different ways. I have already ordered one poetry book based on what I have read in this anthology and no doubt there will be others joining it in the coming months. A fascinating, beautifully put together collection of poems.

Not the usual suspects
Really enjoyed this anthology, it brought to the fore the sheer variety of poetry. Not compiled to conform to a need for political correctness but to show there is more to poetry than the usual collection of poems by old dead white men. Ella's commentary runs throughout the book and is both interesting and illuminating. If you don't like poetry then give this a try you may be pleasantly surprised.

Wonderful poetry collection
This collection is full of treasures. The range of poems and poets is a delight: old favourites and new discoveres alike. The poems are interspersed with the editor's reflections, which are a useful focus for the readings. I loved this book
