SCHLAGE40-133 Commercial 40133 Home Secure Keying Kit

Being a novice 'lock smith' aka. DIY homeowner, I wanted to re-key our new house myself rather than hiring a pro to do 10+ locks. Between this kit and Youtube videos, I had everything I needed to get the job done after a slight learning curve. This kit probably has more features/tools than I needed for my specific project, but I like the idea of having this kit ready for any lock challenge down the road.The only issue I had is that of quality control: one of the bins (Bottom #6) are not the correct pin. This caused much confusion at the start of my project. Once I figured out the pins were incorrect, things made sense and I could continue on.For clarification, it would be nice if the pins were color coded as some other kits are. It doesn't affect the functionality of the kit, you just have to make sure you keep things organized when you dig into a lock and start pulling pins out of this kit.

This kit is a god send. I had never opened up a lock before and with this kit I re-keyed every lock in the house my wife and I just moved into. Maybe I'm distrusting, but I don't like the idea of anyone knowing where I live and how my locks are keyed, even a licensed locksmith. And it was great being able to do things on my own schedule.Once you get the hang of it, a lock can be re-keyed in very little time; 5 minutes or less for most locks. Schlage has re-keying instructions right on their website ("Rekeying Quick Start Guide"). They were clear and easy to follow and made the entire process surprisingly easy.

What a great kit, re-keyed 11 lock sets for about $20.00 more than local lock shop wanted to do the job when they could get to it and now I have the ability to change my locks at will without being at the mercy of lock shop scheduling. More than worth the one time investment if you have many locks to change or want to have a set with a master and user keys. Instructions were adequate for simple re-keying and the Schlage website has more comprehensive instructions for mastering a set of locks. Great value for my situation, pricey if all you want is a couple of locks re-keyed. Always better to have the wherewithal to do a job yourself than to be hostage to someone else's schedule and cost in my opinion.

I purchased a new schlage lock from the big box store and wanted it to match my existing key set. This comes with everything you need to rekey the lock. Worked perfectly and as others stated, it's overkill for 1 lock, but now I can reset locks for friends and family as well.It took about 15 mins as a first timer to reset the lock. Unless you have really big fingers, you do not need tweezers, but it does make it easier.

Good kit: quality tools and sufficient pins and springs. Plenty of the sized pins to rekey my 12 locks and plenty left over.The deadbolt retaining ring removal tool is well made and works perfectly. The pins are not color coded like some of the smaller rekey kits, but not an issue for me.My only reservation (minor) is that the instruction sheet was very basic and poor quality printing was used (photocopy?).There are pins for rekeying; pins and springs for the "top end"; top end retainer clips and some other stuff I'm not sure what it is for.One of the deadbolts popped the top end springs when the follower slipped as I was reinstalling. The kit had replacement pins and springs and I was able to reinsert the top end springs and pins using the beveled follower.

This is a comprehensive kit to rekey most schlage lock cylinders. It takes some searching on the internet to fit good instructions for each individual lock . One tough thing is all of the pins are the same color ( good idea to have calipers on hand ). Pins should be color coded. Other than that this is a great resource to save time and money on multiple lock rekeying.

This set is great. I’ve used it to change all the locks in my home. Simple to use and very well organized. I have recommended this set to many people. This set is a little pricey but worth it.

For any serious DIYer this is a must. It might look like overkill, but this has all of the tools to make the job easier and faster. You will wonder how you dealt with buying those little re-keying packages that comes with keys from the hardware store. I no longer get stressed if I happen to sneeze while removing the barrel sending springs and pins flying every where. They have a tool for that.

These are accurately manufactured, but so are screws and bolts that you can buy by the pound.

I bought this kit made by Allegion. All the pins are a few thousandth too high. My locks work, but not as smooth as when the work was done by my locksmith. I use the exact same lubricant as my locksmith. I should have bought a LAB kit (the one with color pins) that's the brand my locksmith uses.

Kit came with two set of "4" pins and no "6" pins. Would have been single star, but the overall quality of the remainder of the kit make it worthwhile an extra start.
