Is this container leak proof?

Yes. I used the small container to carry-on J&J baby lotion...the creamy lotion consistency. No leaks..packed in overnight. And that made me think... I've never tried with non-creamy consistency, but there is a suction pop..tight closure.

Does anyone know the volume of these containers? How many mL or fluid ounces?

These are 1/2 oz. sample containers.

How are these shipped? In a box as pictured or dumped in a plastic bag?

They come in the box that is shown which was really nice.

Can diluted essential oils be safely stored in these jars?

I put Mary Kay sample, like liquid foundation, and skin cleanser and moisturizer in them. Then put in zip loc bag, then wrap in bubble wrap put in mailing envelope and mail. I have never had an issue.
