Boyt Plantation Pistol Rug

Have purchased both this pistol rug as well as the  Allen Company Suede Leather Handgun Case . The Allen product is Very padded inside with synthetic fleece. So much so that it takes up a lot of space inside the range bag. This is not necessarily a bad thing, just a comment. This case on the other hand is sufficiently padded to carry a pistol or revolver around...in the range bag, without fear of any damage to the piece. Would I carry my firearm to the range in just this case alone? Well I could, I suppose, just don't be knocking it on corners of display cases and the like. But I wouldn't, I have just too much stuff to carry with me like eyes and ears, maybe a detachable scope, a conversion kit, etc.So I like it's overall slim construction. Please be aware that there are no internal stretchy storage straps,or pouches. The handles are leather straps and fairly stiff (rolled as advertised? hmmmm, don't get that. They're just straps of leather). I recommend this pistol rug with the caveat that it isn't a be all or do all.

I own many Boyt cases. This one is OK, does the job, but i'm annoyed. So normaly, i buy the standard Boyt canvas cases. I saw this one and thought that the material might not hold as much moisture as the cotton canvas cases. I have 3 other Boyt 10 inch canvas pistol cases. This one is about 3/4 of an inch shorter than the standard cotton cases and has a cheap plastic zipper. Because its shorter, my 1911 is a tighter fit than i would like. If Boyt wants to change material, then fine, that's OK. However, don't make the case smaller and cheapen the zipper. Spend the extra 2 bucks and buy the cotton canvas case with a brass zipper. That one has has a pocket on the side for extra mags. Amazon shipped the case promptly and it was received quickly, no problems what so ever.

This is a handsome and functional accessory for transporting your favorite handgun to and from the range. Although it measures more like 7"x13" folded, it opens flat to create an ample resting area for your gun. The interior brown quilted microfiber is attractive as well as protective.Possible improvements might include internal straps to secure your gun while transporting it and a pocket for extra magazines (Amazon: photos of the back and interior of the case would be helpful). At this price point, I think these added features are reasonable.

For the price, this rug is great. Protects the gun, and the sizing was accurate. I would buy more, and feel comfortable doing so.
