Missing 411-Western United States & Canada: Unexplained Disappearances of North Americans that have never been solved

Wow such a creepy and fascinating read, a real page turner if there ever was one.
I rarely give books 5 stars. But the depth and detail of the author's work is truly phenomenal. There are a few critics here that give the books low marks. However the critics are unable to explain most of the cases he presents. Like toddlers that suddenly disappear and are found alive many miles away AND atop a high mountain (sometimes with no clothes on, yet never sexually molested). Someone please explain the numerous cases just like this one, that's not a one off. Another reviewer here claims it was just a mountain lion or other wildlife killing the small children in the cases covered. I lived in a rural area for years, and that is just nonsense. How many true predators of humans are there in the wilds of North America? None really, except maybe the crocodile if you get too close, I suppose, oh but that's not North America. There are lots of cases where the victim would have time to scream and nothing is ever heard if it were a normal abduction. That is just common sense. What about disappearances where the victim can hardly walk? Then they are found miles away? The number of cases he covers is breathtaking. This is also a highly emotional book, dealing with losses inflicted on real people. Some of these stories will stay with you forever, like Stephanie Stewart who vanished off a remote fire watch station in a remote wilderness post in the most desolate area in Canada. She has never been found, even now. What happened to the Jamison Family in Oklahoma? Such creepy stuff. I couldn't put down these books. Some of the cases made my blood freeze and I could not sleep. And this is his idea, not to provide all the answers but to make you think and be more aware.

Top Priority for National Park Visitors
Tipped off by a park ranger about unusual, unsolved disappearances in our national parks and what he viewed as a cover-up by the US Park Service, David Paulides has done a superb compilation of hundreds of these cases and correlated common oddities among many of them, such as trained bloodhounds being unable or refusing to track scent. Evolving into a four book series (Western US and Canada, Eastern US, North America and Beyond, and the last, The Devil is in the Details), the former police investigator has done what the controllers of Federal agencies involved should have done and have not to this day. The book(s) may well serve as a catalyst for a tide of public pressure to end the lack of forthrightness by the latter. The books should have wide appeal for hunters, campers, fishermen and hikers; the millions who visit the national parks. Also those who believe deaths and disappearances should be looked at to solve them, no stone unturned and those who are disturbed by Federal cover-ups or ineptness. ( In some cases, FBI and NPS have refused FOIA requests for the case files.) NOT acceptable. Who or what are they protecting? What are they afraid of revealing? The people lost were fathers, mothers, children and friends of those who loved them who still deserve the truth and answers.

Fascinating, Informative and scary!
The author has spent years investigating 'clusters' of people who have gone missing (and often never found) in or near our National parks. The phenomena surrounding the disappearances is strange and disturbing, i.e. many toddlers who seem to vanish while under the supervision of adults - and are found (dead or alive) miles from where they had gone missing, often across streams, through thickets or up on mountains. Or people disappear but all of their gear and some of their clothing is missing, but no signs of violence - no carnage that would be found if the person had been attacked by a bear, etc.The book was written and self published, so some of the photos and maps are a little difficult to see - but that's understandable considering he did this all on his own. I would certainly read it if I were planning a hiking or camping trip to one of our National Forests, if for no other reason than to be aware of ares to steer clear of.

Real life is stranger then fiction!!!
I hope David Paulides comes to Arizona and researches all the strange happenings on highway 666 that has been renamed because of the high strangeness that was going on. the Mogollon Rim and the Superstition Mountains in Arizona, This is a must read for any and all first responders and Law Enforcement that are involved with SAR.Over the years I have done my own research. But David Paulides Has gone the extra mile to research and do his Missing 411 books. I started reading the first Missing 411 book and could not put it down! I have bought the other two Missing 411 books on unexplained disappearances in the United States and Canada. When out enjoying the wilderness I am very aware of what is all around me. If you love the Great Outdoors or need a book for a cold evening night this is your book. I would tell you not only will you truly enjoy the information in this book but you will want to share it with your loved ones and friends. Great Read.
This book has opened my eyes. I am humbled to read about the amazing people that have gone missing in our parks across the United States. I like that David makes you think for yourself. David just puts out the facts then you can decide what may have taken place.

You'll Never Take Your Eyes Off Your Children Again. Not Even For A Moment.
I've read some good books. This one ranks among the very best I've ever read. David Paulides is an intelligent, well educated researcher, investigator and writer. I found only a few small typos in this book. Far fewer than most books I've read. The disappearances David writes about in this book defy logic, yet, there they are. I understand his reluctance to come out and say what he believes happened to these people. Draw your own conclusions, but think hard about the evidence presented by David before you brush these cases off as explainable by common, accepted rationale. After reading this book, you'll never take your eyes off your children again. Not even for a moment. One last note. You may purchase this book on David Paulides' website for $24.95.

A Book That You Won't Want to Put Down!
I first heard of this strange phenomenon when the author was interviewed on a radio show. Yes, there are unfortunate people that go missing everyday. Some by choice, some by accident and some against their will. However, this book, which is part of a series of books, focuses on cases from national parks and the rural north west that stand out because of specific elements such as clusters within an area, age ranges of the missing, how the victim literally vanished sometimes within several feet of others and in many of the cases when someone is found, the strange yet intriguing stories that they tell. The reader will find the cases so interesting that that they cannot avoid theorizing and even discussing some of the cases with friends and family. While the author does not come to any conclusion as to the cause of some of these cases, he does offer suggestions as to why these cases defy logic, the laws of nature and in some instances our very own belief system. Is there something lurking out there in the woods that is waiting for an opportunity to snatch you or your loved ones away? Something that led our ancestors to convey these strange tales seen today as myths, legends and children's stories designed to frighten us to stay close to home and keep a watchful eye? After reading the true cases compiled in this book...it would seem so..

Superb! EVERYONE should read this!
I have just finished reading these two fantastic 'Missing 411' books. As soon as I received them from Amazon I was not able to put them down! I finished both in a weekend and am now re-reading them both. Both books are exceptionally well written, exceptionally well researched and deserve a vast amount more publicity than they are getting. The true scale of these strange disapearances is staggering! That this can have been going on for so long without a major investigation absolutely beggars belief! I advise everyone to read these books expecially if you, your family or friends have suffered the awful experience of someone you love going missing in the wilderness. These books should probably be distributed to search and rescue personell as part of mandatory training. I feel that the authors and investigators deserve an award for the (what must have been) thousands of hours of work in bringing all this together. It also highlights the tireless efforts of search and rescue personell in their continuing drive to find these people. I cannot rate this item highly enough and am looking forward to (hopefully) the next book.

Intriguing, Fascinating & Chilling
I really enjoyed this book as it has opened my eyes to exactly what is going on in National Parks in the US & beyond. The author has worked extremely hard researching the information and deserves huge credit for making the public aware of these issues. It is very worrying, that without David's work, we would have absolutely no idea what's going on within National Parks, and it has certainly made me think twice about camping in the woods. The parallels within some of the missing people reports which can span the best part of 100 years is chilling. Kids going missing and being found on mountain tops, people vanishing literally in thin air, without so much as a scream. David gives identity to some of these people within the book, with photographs and the details missing report. I have just ordered the second in the series, and would recommend this book highly.Mark - Scotland
