Solid Door Latch
Works great with the vintage door knobs I thrifted. Mechanism is very smooth in operation.

Sooooooo thrilled!
I love my antique door knobs on all my doors. 2 recently stopped functioning. I took pictures of the piece and sent to numerous "locksmiths " who said they specialized in antique knobs. All of them said I would have to replace the entire doorknob. I didn't believe that for a minute and searched online. These fit and work perfectly, what a good price too and no locksmith needed!!!

For older house locks
Well made and fits many old & antique door latches & locks. Not the easiest to find, but this one, looks and works well. It is well made and attractively carded & an extra one is now hanging in my shop.

May be tricky if your using real antique knobs and shafts
Was glad to find these .I have some nice antique fired clay(benningtons I think) knobs and latch sets but I didn't want to mortise the doors to use the old latch sets. These seemed to fit the bill perfectly but I was a little concerned because many reviews mentioned older hardware was often not dimensionaly compatible with the new latches so I checked my doorknob shaft and it was close , but definetly smaller than the stated shaft hole of the new latch. I got them and began installing them and they would not slide into the hole . The stated hole dimensions are simply not accurate. Happy ending though as some minimal filing of the old shafts, especially taking off the sharp square corners fixed the problem. I would estimate I filed off about 1/64 "(just a little off each of the 4 sides) for each shaft to fit perfectly so I am quite satisfied , despite the extra work. They slide in and out smoothly with no play. It took probably 5 to 10 minutes to fit each one. They are very high quality latches, and very reasonably priced. If you need to modify your hardware to make them work this is the way I would do it as the old shaft metal will be much softer then the new latch hole metal(if you're thinking of enlarging the hole instead, as it will be hardened steel). A grinder would have been faster but I wanted to take off a minimal amont of meatal. This might not work for everyone but I wanted to include it in the review because so many reviews mentioned this very issue. I'm really happy as I now have some very nice installed knob sets that would probably be $75 dollars if bought new, and I've got just the price of the new latches, about $12 each, into the project as the old knobs were salvage from discarded doors.Took one star off not because the manufaturers latches didn'tfit my 100 year old stuff, which I can understand, but because as several other reviewers have stated, the new latch hole dimensions are not stated accurately.

9/32 vs. 5/8
The sketch currently shown as a product photo by Amazon (see my own pic) is accurate for what I received -- a 9/32 spindle is the largest it will accommodate. The product title ("9/32 in. & 5/16 in.") is contradictory and wrong. This worked fine for me, as reviewers had already pointed it out and 9/32 was what I needed. In fact it was a tight 9/32. With a digital caliper, my spindle measured a rather small 9/32. Even at that, the spindle had to be tapped into the socket with a hammer. That was fine, metal was soft. After a few taps in and out, I had a good fit. The latch itself is well designed and well manufactured, works smoothly. Would buy it again.

Okay
All seems good and price is great; it didn’t fit our door.

Fixed historic home door
I have a door at a historic home that this part's spring broke. I tried several hardware stores and no luck. I found this on Amazon and the dimensions matched. It fit just right in the door and now it will stay shut. So glad I found this.
