Great sharpener
Works well and makes the pencil extremely sharp. The sharpener is kind of awkward to secure as the holes close to the handle. I used an extended bit which helped.

works well
We have multiple school children in our home and many others that visit. This is a really good sharpener. It sharpens easily, evenly, and effectively. The canister does come loose easily. I'm not sure that is a quality problem or just kids being tough on it.

Great sharpener. Just like schools have
Works great just like at school. Fits many size pencils. Easy to use.

SEE UPDATE- (Original: Use tip in THOMAS CHICK's review for an A-1 sharpener at a great price!)
UPDATE, 1/23/23: I don't know what has happened to Thomas Chick's review, it seems to be gone, so you can't check it for the tip I refer to in my original review. What he said (and what works with this particular sharpener) is to hold the pencil loosely enough that it will SPIN WITH THE SHARPENER. Unless the sharpener has been improved, if you hold the pencil tightly so that it cannot spin/turn while being sharpened, chances are you'll get a lopsided result. If you do, let the pencil spin and you'll have a perfect, evenly sharpened tip. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is much like the pencil sharpeners from my grade school days, back in the 1960's. The major difference is the material from which the two are made. Those old timers were HEAVY-DUTY sharpeners, built to last through decades and vast numbers of boisterous children. And they DID last....through all of it! This one, while the same size, type and method of function as those vintage models, is made of lighter material, likely not as rugged & robust. Still, this is a wonderful sharpener, does a fantastic job, is very reasonably priced (at $9.99 when I ordered), mounts firmly and gives the user a beautifully sharpened pencil IF one follows the extremely useful tip shared in the review written by THOMAS CHICK (first review if sorted by "Top Reviews"). That review includes a tip on how to overcome an unevenly sharpened pencil, which this unit has a tendency to produce. If you use that bit of advice, mount the sharpener level & treat it with just a bit of TLC, you should be well satisfied with the quality of this product and the result it produces. (I'm docking one star for the off-balance sharpening. Even though there is an EASY work-around to the problem, if one isn't aware of that tip, this sharpener will likely be at least somewhat disappointing because of its propensity for lopsided sharpening.)

Made to last, easy to empty!
This is a solid pencil sharpener! Not quite like the ones back in the day...in school, but pretty close. All metal, accepts different sizes of pencils, easy to use and empty. What more could a person want out of a sharpener. And NO BATTERIES NEEDED. I should by about 8 and hand them out to parents at the end of the school year! Kidding..

Best pencil sharpener!
Our pencil sharpeners get a lot of use and after our last one quit working I realized I needed something more durable. I chose this one and am so glad I did! It is much more reliable and I love that we can sharpen different size pencils as well. It is very sturdy and always end up with perfectly sharpened pencils.

Mounting sharpener on masonry wall...
X-ACTO KS Pencil Sharpener We own two of these sharpeners -- one is mounted on a wall in the garage and the other one in our tool storage room. Pros: - each sharpener brings a pencil to a fine point with little effort or time. Like most sharpeners, if you keep at it, the pencil will get shorter and shorter. It only takes a few turns for a nice point. One turn if the pencil is almost sharp. - adjustable for pencil diameter and easy to empty wood shavings. - wood shavings bin can be attached horizontally or vertically (see customer image). - inexpensive, making it a good buy. Cons: - the “frame” for the hardened steel cutters is zinc. Zinc is easy for manufacturers to work with as it’s plentiful, inexpensive, and has a low melting point -- but it’s among the weakest metals on the planet. E.g., zinc’s tensile strength is only 5,370 psi versus aluminum’s 42,000 psi or stainless steel 304's 90,000 psi. That zinc “frame” is a weak point. The frame should be aluminum. - the tiny screws provided are way too small. Mine went directly into the trash. Here’s one way to mount it to a masonry wall, for do-it-yourselfers: - Enlarge the base’s three holes to accommodate #8 or #10 machine screws, 7/8" long. - Use a scrap piece of 3/4" thick oak or maple 3.5" x 6" (approximately) for a base. ... route an edge on the oak, via an ogee, round-over, or similar bit. (See Customer Image). ... drill three holes in the oak aligning with the sharpener base. ... install three Tee nuts on the rear of the oak base to receive the machine screws. Increase the hole size from the rear, ½ of the wood depth to receive the tee nuts. Use a Forstner bit to a depth of 1/16" for the tee nut base – so that the oak will lay flat. ... mount the sharpener base to the oak using the machine screws and grind those screws flush from the rear. ... remove the sharpener handle and set it, the mounting screw, and the cutter assembly aside. ... drill two 1/4" holes into the oak to receive 3/16" concrete screws at least 2.5" long. ... using the oak as a guide, drill a hole into the masonry (cinder block, brick, etc.) to proper depth using hammer drill and masonry bit. ... put a washer on a the masonry screw and attach the oak to the wall. ... level the oak, drill the second hole, and attach with a masonry screw – tighten both screws. ... attach the cutter and handle to the sharpener – attach the wood chip bin – and you’re done.

Hard to use without fastening to a table
The quality seems good, but it's very hard to use without fastening it to a table, and it has to be screwed into the table (making holes in the table).

Works very well once you get it mounted to a wall or desk and so long as you use it thoughtfully
A real boon to anyone who loves drawing. Works well with a variety of pencils but not with charcoal or very soft pastel pencils. The Faber Castell and Carbothello pastel pencils can be sharpened easily as they are relatively hard. The Conte pastel pencils however will tend to break as the leads are too soft. It also sharpens coloured pencils, graphite pencils and watercolour pencils. The odd colour will tend to break off eg some cobalt blues tend to be brittle. If a lead breaks off the sharpener won't work properly and you'll need to disassemble it with a screwdriver (a Phillips head screwdriver) which only takes a second, then get the broken lead out by tapping the barrel against a hard surface. The barrel and helical blades need a bit of a clean every now and again with a stiff brush anyway. All in all, well worth having and very good value.

Perfetto e molto bello
Bellissimo, utilissimo ed efficissimo. Da consigliare agli utilizzatori seriali di matite. Praticamente per tutti i diametri di matita.

Easily stripped and broken screws - diappointed purchase
I remember that back in the 1970's how strong, durable and easy to sharpen to a long, tapered point this X-Acto sharpener was. Now with grandkids going to school and always needing to sharpen, I decided to invest the money in a "quality" sharpener. How times have changed! The metal is flimsy and easily bendable. I am guessing that if I need to change the pencil hole diameter often, it will not last very long. Trying to secure the base, the screwhead stripped on one. Another screw broke off at the head. I will need to buy new screws and will have a difficult time getting the stripped and broken screw out. Be sure to pre-drill holes for less aggravation, although you will still have problems. I am disappointed in my purchase.
