Good gadget
This is a pretty good radio, comparable to radios costing 10-15 times as much. The kit is pretty much all inclusive, even an 18" long range antenna, which would cost about the same as the whole kit! And putting out 8 watts, about twice what other small radios do, with the long antenna, range should be impressive. No tests done yet except playing with it, but the adjustments are all there. The manual, although brief, cover all operations and is written clearly, not in Chinglish! The accessories are also very reasonably priced and come in sets of two. I may buy another one of these radios for back-country comms with partners. The price makes it very tempting. I would seriously recommend this item and the accessories.

Great little handheld radio....
Nicely built radio and comes with everything you need. I use it everyday. Battery last a long time. It is not cheaply built. Will worth the price!

Good for the price
When programed properly with CHIRP you can easily use the radio. Now field programming it is a lot harder. Now its called a baofeng UV-5r but it’s 8 watt instead of 5 watts so programming in chirp is a little more difficult. But i was able to communicate with a friend at 5 watts from 4 miles away with obstacles in the way, so the reception is good. When things get bad i know this radio will work so i can keep in-contact with friendlies. When listening to radio the battery last about 15 hours if you keep the volume at half power. If you constantly transmit with the bigger battery you get about 5-6 hours. The smaller battery maybe 2-3 hours. It really depends on the wattage. I was capping my watts at 5 watts. Using 8 watts was really for emergencies if you need to be found. It’s very portable. It can also be set up to transmit voice or data, so it’s versatile. The appearance is much better than my first radio i bought from baofeng.

works fine
really nice radio. i tested in the city and it can reach at 3.5 km. i think range would be much more in open area.

It’s a $30 radio and it sort of works what more can you ask for.
Honestly this thing is amazing for the price. It’s a great receiver! However it’s a terrible transmitter! You can’t go wrong for $30! These things are the best thing to happen to Ham radio in a long time. They are great for getting new people into the hobby. Being able to get licensed and on a repeater for under $100 really helps to get new people interested in ham radio. Telling someone that you can get your license and then go spend over $800 bucks for a proper mobile VHF radio and antenna is the quickest way to discourage any interest they might have had in getting their license. Granted they will still end up spending the $800 on a proper radio as this thing is a pile of junk but the fact they can try it out to see if it’s for them without spending any real money is great.

Great Radio
I got this radio to explore HAM and I am very glad I did. It comes with a ton of accessories right out of the box like the Abbree 771 Antenna which while not being the best 771 antenna, gets the job done and is a lot better than my other UV-5R's standard antenna. The bonus battery bank is awesome and I have not even gotten close to using it up. The cable it comes with is also a big help to program with CHIRP, and now I have it customized how I want. Great value and worth it imo.

The price is right!
Thought about buying a more expensive scanner but there were just a few frequencies I want to listen to. for 25 bucks this little radio works fine.

Came exactly as described. Bit of a learning curve but worth it.
Radio came timely and included everything in item description. The upgraded whip antenna included is a huge upgrade from the stock baofeng rubber duck antenna. Still not as good as a Nagoya but close. The UV-5R is much smaller than I expected. Very easy to stow in your gear.Easy to program with Chirp, programming cable is not included however. If you get one don’t buy a cheap cable as many do not work. The decent ones are somewhat expensive at around $20, I highly recommend getting one for easier programming. The tri-color screen is a joy to use. By default it’s purple on standby, blue when receiving, red when transmitting. And you can change all this and more in the settings. I recommend you keep the manual handy and go through each of the settings to familiarize yourself with what the radio is capable of. It is a good idea to do some research on the radio hobby in general so you know what is legal and what isn't.This radio is technically not legal to transmit on many of the frequencies it is capable of, i.e. FRS and GMRS bands. You need an Amateur HAM license from the FCC to transmit on the HAM frequencies, but listening is OK until you decide if that's something you want. To get full use out of this radio you will want to program your own channels, it only comes with a few out of the box. There are many YouTube tutorials covering how to get the most out of it. So make sure to do your research! If you want a cheap but highly functional radio this is the only way to go! This radio is a classic.
