Copper Art Jewelry: A Different Lustre

This is a good reference book for some of the copper jewelry I collect. It has beautiful color plates, but the words aren't printed as clear as I'm used to. But hey, it is from 1992. I may be spoiled by modern type.

Really just covers a couple of big manufacturers. If you have interest in the work of artists like, for example, Art Smith, this book is not for you.

I'm new to collecting Renoir/Matisse jewelry and a little bit of Rebajes' designs - this book is perfect! Not only does it have a gazillion, high quality photos but the authors also go into biographical detail for each artist. I especially love pages 96-97 with a catalog of all (most??) of Renoir/Matisse designs. Highly recommend this book if you're an enthusiast and/or collector!

I found the book to be out of date considering the changes to the jewelry industry and the change in metal values. The book features the most commonly known works in copper but other artists were not mentioned. The book really offered nothing that I didn't already know or could find easily on the net so I returned it.

The publication itself is gorgeous: beautifully bound, dynamite photos, readable text, very informative. My only quibble (okay, TWO quibbles) is that the index is rather sparse - read that lousy - and the book is not organized as a reference, which would have made it even more valuable. Either way, I use it very often as I'm an apt pupil, learning copper lingo every day.

I think this is my favorite jewelry reference book. Lots of good information on the companies who produced vintage copper jewelry, as well as many photos of vintage pieces and ads of the period.
