A timeless historical novel about two lonely people who witness the miracle of second chances, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Women “Beautiful and uplifting . . . will bring both tears and laughter.”— Romantic Times He never intended to stay. She couldn’t bear to let him go. Mad Dog Stone was a carefree drifter, a man who loved life on the open road and never looked back. Mariah Throckmorton was lonely and frightened, hiding from a past filled with heartbreak and scandal. A man in need of love, a woman in need of laughter . . . He wandered onto her quiet apple farm in search of a few days’ work, threatening her peace of mind and stirring the emotions she tried so hard to hide. Theirs was a love born against all odds, impossible to count on, impossible to hold. Together they would face the heartache of loss, the price of passion, the aftermath of betrayal. For only then would they learn the bittersweet truth—that love exists only if you believe. . . . Review: Great book but horrible editing - I loved this story, as I do with all Kristin Hannah books. My problem is that the book was filled with so many typos that it was difficult to read. Someone needs to edit the copy and correct all of the numerous errors. Review: A page turning tale of people who take advantage of second chances in life. - Since this type of novel is quite different than the books, I usually read I have to admit to actually enjoying this story. I found it somewhat interesting, liked the beginning part of this book which involved a fist fight. From a historical perspective and as a somewhat romantic novel I can see women enjoying this book more so than men. This story revolves around Mariah Throckmorton who gets involved romantically with a character named “Mad Dog Stone” a drifter who moves around looking for work. This is a story about second chances we sometimes experience in life. I never give away too much information when reviewing a novel. If you like the romantic novels of Kristin Hannah, you may want to check out this book. In the end everything will work out well as in most of Kristin Hannah’s romantic novels. Rating: 4 Stars. C'mon Amazon, if you're going to charge for the Kindle version, format it!
Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors. I've read most of her books with the exception of her first five or so. Her stories are captivating, her characters are well developed and likeable and she pays great attention to detail, especially in her historical fiction novels. Clearly her skills have evolved since this book, but I still found it enjoyable. But seriously, this Kindle version is virtually unformatted. Double spacing, random letters here and there, "Chapter Five" is literally in the middle of a paragraph. Not acceptable!!

Really Good
I loved this one. She got inside the characters of Mariah, Mad Dog, Rass and Jake really well and I liked all of them. She has the tendency to overdo the same descriptions of characters or situations, but I really enjoyed this one. She did pretty well with her characters in not being repetitive in her mostly written over usage of descriptive wordiness. But the characters were very interesting, unique and likeable. It kept me reading day and night. As with all her books, I finished it within 2 or 3 days. They definitely keep you wanting more. I just wish she could stop dragging out situations and the same descriptions for so long. Come on Kristin!!! Your story lines are great.

Too many typos!!!!
I enjoy books written by Kristin Hannah and was looking forward to this book. I find it very disheartening to receive an e-book that is filled with so many typographical errors. It actually takes away from the story line. Shame on you Amazon for charging $7.99 for the Kindle edition with this many errors.

Kristen Hannah books
I totally enjoyed reading her books. Sometimes mixed with history of the times of the title reading; not so much liking the love making descriptions…feel better if left to one’s imagination. Keeps your wanting more and more of her books.

If you believe
I didn't want to put it down. I even stopped doing puzzles so I could read. A beautiful story! This is the first book of Kirstins that had so many mistakes in it. One thing was Mariah's name would change to Marian. Weird! There were other things, too. But the story kept me interested! Loved it!

Great book but is unedited
She is my favourite author and while I loved this story and rooted for the characters, it hadn't been edited or formatted properly. I paid £6.64 for this book - I expect a quality book. Very disappointing that a top author could publish a book that hasn't been edited. Why? Do not understand this at all. She will ruin her reputation. Also the book cover was dreadful. Other than that, I loved the story but did find a lot of it quite repetitive
