Review: Good quality mechanical safe at a great price | 1 Year update - 1 Year update: Still as pleased as the day I purchased this safe. Price increased from $107 to $150 could be due to supply/demand market forces during the CV-19 pandemic. Original post: I was looking for a good wall mountable and mechanical gun safe that had a second mechanical (key) way to open the safe. I was dissuaded from purchasing an electronic combination or bio-metric safe since any failure could result in the contents being permanently locked inside the safe. I was also looking for a mechanical pushbutton pad that had more than 5 buttons as well as numbers printed on them. Some mechanical pushbutton safes come with 4 or 5 buttons and some with NO identification on each button. Under extreme stress (e.g. needing to get to my gun quickly) numbers help identify and (more) quickly allow the user to open up the safe. More than 4 or 5 buttons add a lot more possible combinations in the event someone tries to "crack" the code (unauthorized people - kids especially). Pros/likes: - Very good price - Very well built - 3 very sturdy keys - Can "STAGE" the combination (PRE-press 1,2,3 or all 4 keys in your combination and the safe remains locked until you turn the open/close knob) This is a great feature for people that want to be able to open the safe quickly in the event of an emergency. NOTE: Below are simply suggestions for the manufacturer to consider going forward. I love the safe and will be keeping it and in the event I need another one or am requested a recommendation (for a safe) will certainly buy another one and definitely recommend this one to other people. Suggestions for the manufacturer: - Add a "paper" mounting template and wall anchors. Reason: Very difficult for an individual to hold the safe against a wall and precisely mark where to drill the holes for the screws and wall anchors. - Make the first button pressed (in the opening sequence) more of a "firm" click like the remaining/ last 3 buttons the combination have. Reason: The first button pressed in the opening of the safe sequences has a "mushy" and a softer click feel/sound then the 3 other buttons do in the balance of the combination sequence. NOTE: This is not a limiting factor for me, but I can see others might feel it is. - Add a small "lip" around the (inside) perimeter so when wall mounted the contents have something that keeps the contents from falling out. NOTE: This is not a limiting factor for me using this as a gun safe since/ as I am using small magnets inside the safe to "grip" some of the items that I do not want falling out of the safe when it is opened. - Add one "extra"/spare replacement combination pin, in incase one of the 4 combination pins failures in the future. I know it adds an extra cost, however, just like the keys and various products we purchase in our daily lives, "spares" that come w/ the product are a "peace of mind" for the consumer. Review: Awesome little quick access safe - *!*11 Month update*!* - I bought this for transporting and for night stand access my Springfield XD Mod 2 4" Service Model. For overall room, I could probably fit 2 if not 3 of these pistols in here without any foam. I have mine set up so when it opens the pistol is in a ready to grab position. The box itself is well built, has a nice durable crinkle like finish on it, and a nice velour like fabric on the inside. Everything about this safe is pretty well built and its a solid option for those of you who dont want to spend $200 on the Fort knox options or other simplex style mechanical safes. Something neat about this lock is that you can stage it, you have a 4 number combination, say 4321. If you press 4,3,2 and leave it, you only need to push 1 to be able to actuate the knob and open it. If you push any other number but the correct number, the entered combination will reset. My gripes External hinge - could be cut or ground off, not sure if it will completely pop open though. Door requires light loading to open-if there is any pressure pushing on the door from the inside, the lock wont release, youll have to gently push, then turn the dial. Combination - 1 through 8, no repeating numbers, no 9, no 0. Since the combination is set by moving physical keys in the lock assembly, you cant do something like 1123 or 1231, it must be 1234 --UPDATE 1.2.2019-- Still love this safe, buying a second one today for permanent mounting in the bedroom. First one still going strong with no significant problems.

Great safe, well worth it's price for peace of mind
I've been using this safe for 6 months now. It sits on my nightstand and I use it every single day at least twice, once to put the gun away and once to take it out. The only part that gave me trouble was the metal cover to change the factory combination to your own. The same day I got it, I changed the factory code which was simple enough to do using the provided instructions. When I went to reassemble the cover, the screws became stripped. I contacted the manufacturer and was quickly e-mailed back that replacement screws and even a new cover were on the way. To this day they have never arrived and my follow-up emails went unanswered. However, the stripped screws have not fallen out as they are only there to hold the cover and aren't on any moving parts. So there is no imminent need for the screws. There are 8 buttons but the combination can be no more or less than 4 digits and no digit can be used more than once but they do have to be pressed in the order your choose. For example, you can pick 2.4.6.8... but if you enter 8.6.4.2, it will not open. On some safes, as long as the right numbers are pressed, the order doesn't matter. There are no batteries but there is a key back up which may be a weak point. I treat this as a safe to keep out honest people of all ages... an actual bad guy will get in albeit with damage to the safe. The safe has functioned flawlessly as long as you push the buttons in with purpose. If you push them in gently, the safe doesn't always register the push and thus won't open. But as long you push the buttons in properly, the safe will open each and every time. The safe is solid and well built in China. So are most of our smartphones and we love them but this fact may be a deal breaker for some. It has a nice carry handle that I have used on occasion and looks to be made to last. I can fit any two of my guns in there with zero problems and no cramming. My biggest being a S&W 5946 and Glock 19... both fit easily with room to spare even if you want to store them with magazines removed. The interior is carpeted but not padded so if traveling, you may want to get some foam padding and cut some to fit so the guns don't beat each other up if this is a concern for you. But despite the screw cover issue, I still give this safe 5 stars because it hasn't failed once and the screws have shown to function for their intended purpose even though they're stripped.

Works great however the odd time I have to reenter the pin for it to open. I dont know it that's operator error or not. But worth every peeny fits a 9mom with laser on it and 4 loaded mags in it. Metal work on appears of great workmanship. Had it for years and opened it and closed it alot. Easy to figure out how to change combination.
