How to make a dumb door smart
January 2023, I have a 10 year old Chamberlain MyQ door opener. Works great and no where near obsolescence. Battery backed up type, with the dreaded 'yellow' learn button. I wanted to have better control and monitoring of the door, so I looked into WiFi connected upgrades. Chamberlain was ignorant and unsupportive as to their upgrade for this model opener...they could not give me a yes or no if it would work. So I kept on looking at the various make and models of WiFi interfaces available. The awesome power of the Amazon... Then I came across eKyro. At first I was suspicious of the low cost, but at least they EXPLAINED the differences between opener brands/models, and how their WiFi control module can work with almost any of them. They also, and more importantly, have a website that actively aids in determining if their module will work with your model opener, and offer an adapter to make pretty much any model opener work with their control module. Note that the adapter (at this time of writing) is FREE -if you need it for your particular make/model/vintage door opener. You must request it via their website and submit your amazon order # to get it. The usual quick delivery of both items, although the adapter was direct from eKyro -and free shipping. Installation American English instructions and fairly well documented (text and pictorial) in the included paperwork, but also on Utube. Simple install. It took me longer to install the door open/closed sensor, than to wire the module to the door opener. I struggled with the app on my iPhone 6 getting it to WiFi pair to my local network, but it was because I was dense, not due to eKyro. Curiously, before I started the install, eKyro contacted me via amazon to ask how the install was going. I admitted stupidity and they kindly directed me to the 'alternate' method and utube tutorials. Kudos due because that kind of after sale support is rare these days. Shortly after that I completed the install, pairing/functional testing of the system, but only after some careful technical review, I realized the mistakes I made and got everything going. I am tech savvy...shame on me. Your mileage may vary, but eKyro will actively help you through any difficulty. The app Simple download/install. A little funky navigating within but I guess that is an extension of the programmer(s). The app is capable of operating numerous IoT gadgets. Long list... I suppose that it great for the future. I will not be using it with siri, alexa or other AI stuff, so I cannot comment on that. Flexible/configurable. I dont know yet if it tries to connect with servers in China or elsewhere. Overall, a very positive experience. I hope this stuff lasts the test of time. Dependability and durability is the name of this game. Judging from the innards of the adapter module, I can say the electronics are of high quality and workmaship. Excellent value! On a skill scale of 1 to 10 to integrate to your system(s) a 4.

My opinion
Great item!!! Was looking for a remote way to close garage if I forgot to. Did research on the various products out there. I already have cameras-- just needed to close the door. This is the one!!!! Great price!! Easy to install-- very basic. Usually basic works the best & lasts the longest!! Already had app installed so just added door. Easy... Also wanted to work with Alexa- it does. Just fyi-- Alexa can only open/close by voice. It will tell you if open or closed if asked. The smart life app will show you a pic of door, a history of open/closed and you can set it up on a time. Multiple options if you want or need. Very cool,. Would recommend.

Just What I needed
I bought this out of necessity, not because I need, want, or even like smart devices. I live next door to a very large military base. The Military owns the frequency that garage door and automobile remotes operate on. About 4 years ago or so they started using this frequency and when they do, when you live as close as I do, everything that uses a remote stops working. When it first started I thought something was wrong with my opener. I extended the antenna to the outside, no help. I changed the control board, no help. Finally I realized what was happening. Garage door manufactures do next to nothing to get around this issue. They want to sell you a new opener but won't guarantee it will work. My opener is less than 10 years old. Anyway, the Military use of this frequency is becoming more and more common. When I finally purchased this device, I hadn't been able to open my garage door for over a month. Of course it started working a day before this arrived. So this is for those times when my regular garage door remotes won't work so I'll always be able to get into my garage. The kit comes with pretty much everything you could possibly need to install it. Mounting it to the opener is easy with the double sided tape provided. The hardest part, for me was figuring out how to mount the sensor that determines when the door is open or closed. The good thing is you can have a pretty wide gap between the switch and the magnet. I suggest when you first get this device, you download the app, plug in the device and set it up in the app before doing anything else. Then lay the switch on a flat surface and move the magnet slowly towards it while watching in the app to see when it senses the door is closed. This will give a good sense of how far the magnet can be from the switch which will help you when mounting it to the door. Do is a couple of times to make sure. From here, installation is easy. Just mount the unit to you door opener, connect the 2 wires to it. Plug it in and run the sensor to the door. That's it. Simple. I wouldn't think it would take anyone more than 30 minutes to install this including securing all the wiring and making sure the installation is clean. The app is pretty straight forward and has lots of options for setting up smart features which I'm not going to go into. They have plenty of very good videos to help you install and setup the app. The only smart feature I use and that makes sense to me is using GEO fencing to open the garage door when you arrive home. This is a nice feature and works perfectly. I'm sure a lot of you will find a lot of the features useful for you. That's a bonus, for me, it's just so I can open my garage door when the Military is jamming the signal. It's a good product, works as it's supposed to, easy to install, and a lot of support videos. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Good Devices. App is so-so.
So I purchased three eKyro units to replace my NEXX units which were dying a slow death as the vendor has faded away. In short, the eKyro devices do everything I had hoped with ease of installation and configuration for voice assistants. The instructional videos from eKyro available on their website are outstanding and a value differentiator from competitors. If I had one criticism, it is the use of the SmartLife app instead of a built to purpose app. SmartLife is a swiss army knife app used to manage all manner of smart devices. It is a little rough around the edges with odd wording choices at times. Advertisements take a small part of the screen at times. It strains use of the universal power on and off icons to substitute for door open and closed status icons in the Favorites section. Is "Power on" door open or closed? Not sure. Siri works reliably after the wonky configuration with the Shortcuts app Apple somehow thought was a good idea (not eKyro's fault). Alexa is easier to configure and works well though requires a verbal passcode to open the door. In the end - these are a worthy replacement for my old NEXX units. I will be using voice assistants or Siri widgets to operate the door so Smartlife is not a real big deal. Consider looking at competitors with a dedicated app (e.g. Meross) if it is important to you.

Works well. Needs a bit of time to get network connection to work, but great once it's connected.
Works great! Totally worth the price and install took a couple of hours. I have two adjacent garage doors, so I ordered two units. You can control both doors in the same SmartLife app, with the ability to open or close either door, and see if either is open or closed. Just choose the door you want. You can also allow a second person to use the controller. Just Google "How to invite someone to share SmartLife app." Expect some frustration during network setup, as with most remote-control apps. In my case, one of the two units just would not connect after many tries. But when I tried the other unit, it immediately connected and then the other one linked right away. Don't give up on the SmartLife software. It'll take a few tries, but you'll get it to work! Wiring up your opener is easy. Just attach the red & black wires from the controller to the two terminals on your garage door opener that go to the 'open and close' push button mounted on the wall of your garage; the one you use to open and close the door. Follow the wire from the button on the wall to your opener; those two terminals are the open/close connections. (The other two connections on the opener go to the electric eye; you don't need to touch those wires.) Then, extend the long black wire that comes out of the controller to the magnet switch. Mount the switch to the garage door FRAME next to the garage door. Mount the accompanying magnet on the garage door itself, making sure (by looking at the app) that the magnet is close enough to activate the switch, but moves out of the way when the door goes up (see photos). Works within about 3/4" of each other. Could use this device for anything that needs 'dry contacts' and which could also tell you, remotely, whether a switch is open or closed. Great little device!

The best invention since sliced bread!
There’s an old expression that something is “the best thing since sliced bread.” For me, the eKyro Smart Garage Door Opener might actually deserve that title. Why I Bought It: I Forget to Close My Garage Door. I frequently leave my garage door open without realizing it. The eKyro solved that problem in two very effective ways: 1. Automatic Alerts When the Door Stays Open: Using the app on my smartphone, I set the eKyro to alert me every 10 minutes whenever my garage door is open. My phone buzzes and shows a message that the door has been open for at least 10 minutes. With one tap on my phone, the door closes instantly — and I get a confirmation alert saying it’s closed. No need to walk to the garage at all. You can choose any time interval you like, and you can turn the reminder feature off temporarily if you intentionally want the door left open longer. 2. Scheduled Automatic Close Times: The second feature is even better: you can program specific times during the day or night for the eKyro to check your garage door — and automatically close it if it’s open. For example, I used to have it check every hour from 4 p.m. to midnight. Now I have it check every hour, 24/7. You can customize this for different days of the week, such as a different schedule on weekends. Even if I forget to turn the 10-minute alerts back on, the scheduled checks function as a safety net. Remote Control From Anywhere: Another excellent feature: I get alerts when the garage door opens or closes — no matter where I am. I once saw notifications coming in while I was 1,700 miles away in another state as my housekeeper opened and closed the garage. And if I want to open the door for a neighbor, a repair person, or a delivery, I can do it right from my phone. If they forget to close it, I can close it remotely. There’s also a history log, which is surprisingly useful for tracking when the door was opened or closed. Installation & Support: Installation was very straightforward, and the included videos are excellent. Troubleshooting: I did run into one issue that confused me at first — and several reviewers have mentioned the same thing. Sometimes it seems like the eKyro has “reversed,” showing the door as open when it’s closed, and vice versa. The fix is simple: adjust the two magnetic sensors so they’re closer together (about ¼ inch) when the door is closed. I actually broke one of the magnets while adjusting it, contacted the company, and their customer support was exceptionally helpful in getting everything working again. So if you think your unit has “reversed polarity,” or acting “opposite,” don’t panic — just adjust the magnet spacing. Final Verdict: In my opinion, the eKyro Smart Garage Door Opener really is one of the best inventions since sliced bread. It has solved my forgetfulness, improved my home security, and given me total control of my garage door from anywhere. I highly recommend it.

Great opener that works with all smart device set ups
I had purchased this opener as my second choice as my first one did not work well with my Google Home + iPhone set up. The eKyro opener is far superior simply because it works with the Smart Life app, which works with IOS and Android. Plus the Smart Life app has a CarPlay integration. So it seems that it should work for everyone no matter what devices you own. Plus since Smart Life is an app that works with various smart devices, it means that you likely will have multiple uses for it. My garage door opener is a LiftMaster 8500 wall mount. It is an opener that requires the free accessory in order to work. The accessory is basically a remote control that is connected to the eKyro. When you give the command to open/close the door the eKyro simply sends an electrical signal to the remote with triggers your garage door opener. It is very easy to order the accessory on the eKyro site. And the shipping was very fast. I ordered the at the same time as I ordered the opener on Amazon and they arrived within a day of eachother. The opener comes with an instruction book. This device is very easy to set up. And eKyro provides very clear video instructions (easily accessed from a QR code in the instructions book). They provide instructions for adding the device to Smart Life, installing the opener, and creating scenes in Smart Life. Initially the opener was not working for me. Because I could hear the click, I knew it was receiving the signal to open/close. But it wasn't transmitting it to the accessory. After multiple attempts to make a good connection between the opener and accessory, I ended up email eKyro customer support. Their customer support is absolutely stellar. Their response time is super fast. The initial suggestions to trouble shoot did not work. So they quickly offered to send me a replacement opener. That opener arrived very fast. Unfortunately, I had the same issue with it. But, they were able to confirm that they had tested it before sending it and knew that it did work. As I said the issue was with the connection between the opener and the accessory. No matter how I tried, I was not able to make a good connection with the wire connection terminal that came with the accessory. It was a bit odd. But in the end, I ended up using twist wire caps to connect the opener to the accessory and that solved the problem. Now I am able to easily open/close my garage door via voice command to my google home speaker or by tapping the button in my Google Home app, Smart Life app, or on my car's touch screen in CarPlay. I cannot give their customer support enough praise. The response time, patience, and eagerness to help was unexpected and uncommon. If you are in the market for a smart garage door opener, this is the one that you should get!

A Great Device to Control Your Garage Door
Works as advertised. We have a garage door opener that doesn’t communicate well with the “home link” devices in any of our cars. Normally we have to use the key pad to open the door. I read an article about a similar device as this, and found this one instead. For much less than a new garage door opener, we can now use our phones and Siri voice commands and it works pretty well. Plan on an hour and a half, start to finish, including setting up the app. As for installation, the unit is easy to connect to the garage door opener head unit. There is a nice mounting tape provided to attach it to the garage door opener head unit. The magnetic sensors, needed to let this wireless unit determine if the door has opened or closed, is fiddly to install. While I ultimately had everything I needed in the box to mount rack sensor, I did have to cut the mount that mounts to the wall so that it would not catch on the door as it opened and closed. But the provided mounting tape enabled a solid installation of the wall mounted sensor. The provided paper instructions to set things up in the app were a bit out of synch with the app itself, but it wasn’t too difficult to figure things out. For instance it tells you to ensure the device is in pairing mode, but doesn’t say how to enable the mode. Top tip: There is a program button on the device. Hold it for about 5 seconds, release it, and the red LED will begin blinking. After that it’s easy to set up. Also, the instructions in the pamphlet for setting up voice enabled commands in Siri were not quite the same as the app, but things were intuitive enough to make it through the differences. Once it’s all set up, it works pretty well. I’d recommend it.
