Another great Fastcap product
I bought a single True-32 Metric Tape from Fastcap (the blue one) and I loved it. Far superior to all other tape measures, of which I have had many. Very easy to read on the white background and it is reversible, meaning that the gradations are printed on both edges of the tape so that no matter which way you read it the numbering is right-side-up. The white tape is writable with pencil so you can easily repeat measurements with less chance of error. The pencil sharpener didn't work very well, but I mostly use mechanical pencils so this doesn't affect my usage of it.I went ahead and bought two of the flatback metric tapes based off my positive experience with the True-32 blue tape. The gradations are printed exactly the same as the True-32 blue one, but the tape is flat. This means that it is exclusively for measuring panel lay-out, but that is precisely why I got it. With the regular curved tape measure you need to tilt it over so that you can register your pencil mark precisely on the panel. With the flatback it makes laying out measurements on panels (or any flat surfaces) much easier and more convenient. Interestingly the hook at the end of the tape is fixed, unlike other tape measures where there is specific amount of play in it to account for the width of the hook when doing 'inside' measurements where you push the hook against something. This is because the flatback tape is totally floppy and cannot support itself in anyway which makes taking 'inside' measurements where you push the hook against something impossible. This is not a deficiency since it is in accordance with the specific purpose for this tape measure. This is a specific tape measure for a specific purpose. It is excellent for doing this one thing, but not so great for anything else. If you are using it for panel layout and marking then definitely go for it. If you are in the market for a more general purpose metric tape measure then get the True-32 Tape. Also the pictured tape measure on this page is red, but the actual flatback is grey.

Last Brand of Tape measure you will ever buy
I'm an amateur woodworker. I will never buy another brand of tape measure again. This tape measure is accurate, durable and, easy to read. Really no need to convince you. At the price for these, buy one you will never buy another brand tape measure again I promise you.

Very happy with the tape
I purchased this particular tape to use for doing layouts. It is not like your standard tape measure where it stands out like most Carpenter tapes it is a very flexible flat tape that lays flat and helps you to do a very accurate layout.

Needed This Years-Ago
This is a ‘shining example’ of how a tool should be constructed. An integrated pencil sharpener (w/replaceable blade) and an erase-able ‘note pad’ in the place of a useless company label, make this tape-measurer the most useful I’ve ever owned (I’m almost 60).The lever-lock works perfectly, and the best feature is its “Flat-Back” metric-marked-tape. I prefer the easy accuracy of Metric/CM when working my wood-shop. Yet, the metric-tape still shows standard American 16” layout marks printed in RED for easy reference down the tape’s center, just in case you have to lay-out some walls and roofs.

Accurate, but...
I like the measuring tape and do recommend it with a caveat. The housing is in inches. So if you back it up to a 90 degree angle and add the 3" to the remainder of the tape, you would have to convert 3" to 76.2mm. See the problem? For this to be a true metric measuring tape, the housing should be dimensioned in millimeters. I know that would be more expensive because of sharing the housing with imperial versions (and the economy of scale involved), but I would have gladly paid another $5 or so to get an appropriately dimensioned METRIC measuring tape. The 3" marking on the housing is therefore completely useless.

Accurate and easy to lock
I've had other tapes and they not only don't lay flat, the locking mechanism has always failed. This is brilliant.I'm from the US, and have recently learned the advantages of working in Metric. I have no idea why we still work in imperial.I also work with round objects, so this is perfect. The note pad on the side is a bonus.Great weight. Great quality. Wonderful to be able to read from both sides.Have nothing bad to say.

Not well designed for metric woodworking
Although this item seems well made it has a couple fatal flaws which make it only useful in one single case. This is a metric tape measure. I intentionally bought it because I am converting to the metric system for my woodworking hobby.I choose this because it is metric on both sides, is black/red ink on white, and is flat. I believe this arrangement makes accuracy a little easier. However, this measure is absolutely useless for setting up machine fences for router tables, table saws and the like. This is because the hook end is fixed it does not move in and out like a normal tape. This mean it can only take “outside measurements” accurately. I look at a video on the fast cap website and discovered that they did this on purpose. Also, the body is marked as 2.5 inches which is 63.5 mm so inside to inside measures are not accurate unless you like working in half mm. The point of going metric is to make things easier. Also the length of the tape is marked as 16 foot. That is 4876.8 mm. It just seems that fast cap tried to retro fit an imperial tool for metric. This is a design fail in my opinion

Different
The tape is completely flat which is good for accuracy. Downfall: Measurements are only metric. Also only good for flat projects due to the fact that the tape is not rigid (flimsy) so only good for what you can reach. Not much different than using your mother's cloth sewing tape.

Buena cinta, buena marca, probablemente la mejor
Es una cinta de fastcap. Mediciones precisas, cinta flexible.

So Useful
Brilliant little tape measure. Indispensable at times.Top quality. Large but not too large to fit in your pocket.Obviously it's main use is carpentry when you can lay the tape on a surface of some description. It also has metric on both edges of the tape which is far more useful than it sounds. When you are using a tape, you will often find that the units you want are on the wrong edge of the tape, so half you measurements are in metric and the rest are imperial. it's just really inconvenient to try to mark to the same edge all the time. So this tape stops all that nonsense. The only way the tape could be improved is by having the reverse printed as well.Anyway, it's a bit expensive, but it's an essential buy.Highly recommended.

A bit overrated
The tape has it's niche, but it's not as versatile as a classic metal tape. Only inside measures and quite finicky on a distance over a 2m.
