The alternator in on 1994 Mercruiser 7.4 failed after a shop had just installed it 11 months earlier. Their warranty was for 90 days and the whole job cost right around $500. They offered to return it to their supplier for test and repair, then charge me for any failed parts. Not having very good luck with them the first time around, an unknown parts price and another 90 day warranty didn't seem like a good bet to me. Especially since this one was under $100 and included over night shipping! I ordered in the evening and the next day it was waiting for me when i got home from work. AMESOME SHIPPING! Fingers crossed for reliability :)

Two strikes, I will not be making a third! Junk
I bought two off these for a mercruiser 3.0l ltxThe 1st one stopped working after one outing on the boat. Would only put out 12.7v enough to run on but don't leave any accessories on or else you would be stuck in the middle of the lake like we where.So I returned that one and bought another one. 1st day on the lake it was perfect again. 2nd day the voltage jumped up to 18v at anything over 1/4 throttle. The alternator got super hot to the touch and was smoking the paint and finishes off. Bearings started to grind as I'm sure the heat was frying them too. This time I was able to get back to the dock before it had a total melt down.I would give negative stars if I could. Im off to buy an OEM one now...Lesson learned here

Purchased twice and it worked only a few months each time
I first purchased this in early spring and used it about 20 hours on a 1997 Monterey with a 5.7 Merccrusier. It fit perfectly and was easy to install. However it quit working after about 2 months. I purchased a 2nd one on May 13th and it operated for about 80 hours but quit working in September. This unit cost less than 1/2 the cost of an OEM model but I have not had success with it.
