Excellent read....good social history of pre and war years within a novel framework

Wonderful series
I absolutely loved this series and couldn't believed I hadn't come across it before. I really missed the Cazalets when I'd finished the fifth and final volume, which shows how wrapped up I'd become in their world. As a collection, it's not only a wonderful extended story of a mid-century English family, it's also a superlative piece of social history.

Enjoyed the Radio 4 adaptions over the past few years and enjoying the books equally. Radio 4 ran a very good docudrama on Howard's life a few weeks ago, fascinating. One of the great 20th Century writers, if a little unknown. Great value, all 5 books for less than a tenner.

After hearing the serialisation on the radio I've always wanted to read the books. I'm enjoying them.

wonderful read.
Read one of these and was hooked. My friends likewise. She writes perceptively and compassionately about her characters across the classes, including the children's experiences. The novels also give a historical perspective of the Uk before and following the second world war.

High street quality - Amazon price...
Bought these as partner had read the first and loved it. Was a little concerned the price might mean they were low production quality, cheap paper etc. However books are high street quality and a real steal at the price. Plus having read the first one already we were able to gift the new one to a friend. Win-win!
