Making Japanese Woodblock Prints

Fabulous book by a world class woodcut artist who works in the UK and travels to Japan. A generous FB friend the irrepressible Laura Boswell. A genius and master of patience. She shares every detail of her process with the rest of us in FB printmaking groups and on YouTube.

This is an excellent book for those starting out with woodblock printing. Together with Merlyn Chesterman and Rod Nelson's "Making Woodblock Prints", this pair forms a solid foundation of equipment, preparation, and technique.My rating is for the book. You may want to select a different vendor (see below)The shipping from the vendor, however, leaves a bit to be desired. The books arrived in perfect condition, packed in a padded envelope. However, I purchased the books on June 30 and they arrived on July 23. Tracking indicated the books shipped on July 2, but the next tracking information begins July 10, apparently taking days to travel 10 hrs from the origin, then another 6 days to travel an hour's drive to the next stop. The original arrival estimate was July 13 - 19, if I remember correctly. On July 19, the books were delayed in Utah for 2 days before resuming their journey, taking 3 days to make the 5 hour trip. Looking at the reviews, shipping time seems to be the biggest issue with this vendor.

Printing book

I've been following this talented artist on YouTube for quite awhile This is her first book and I was quite pleased to find it on Amazon.

Japanese woodblock printing is a complicated and daunting process. This book explains everything you need to know, from planning an image, how to use tools and equipment, and the techniques required, with plenty of helpful illustrations. I'm now putting the advice into practice and enjoying it thoroughly.

Excellent book, well described by a well known printer. Ideas easy to follow.

This book very neatly condenses a rather overwhelming subject into understandable sections.Laura is a masterful teacher and obviously passionate about woodblock carving and watercolour printing.Check out her Utube lessons.
