great knife
its hard to find knives in this traditional pattern anymore. Fit and finish is great walk and talk is perfect. blades dont have any side to side play. the springs are big and a little stiff and might be hard for a younger person to open. overall this knife is very nice quality for the price you will be hard pressed to find a better classic scout/camp pattern than this.the older style can opener takes a litte to get used to but it works great for a ferro rod striker and can be used just like the awl for heavier duty jobs.the awl has the sharpest point of any i have seen on a knife. i have many scout pattern knives and this is as good as any and better than most dont let the price fool you this is a quality knife that will last for years

Great knife, great price
Great knives! Rough Riders are nearly on a par with Case sometimes, at least the stainless bladed ones... And at a fraction of the price. This particular model is much better than the current Boy Scout knives, which are also made in China.Mine has a can opener that is a little too stiff to open easily. That's the only negative I can say about it. It works fine, opening any size can. Excellent fit and finish, walk and talk.

Good for the price, tough to break in
Rough Rider had normally done a good job overcoming flaws and listening to customers, but on this one they kind of missed the mark a bit. The knife is styled like a classic post World War II pocket knife with the old fashioned blade style can opener which works and doubles as a stout second blade if you sharpen it a bit more, in fact it is a copy of a CASE knife made in the 1970's. The awl is triangular, not flat, and perfect for stitching leather or drilling a hole in wood. The Cap lifter has a long flat blade for more reach and leverage. Overall it is just like an old-fashioned style scout knife; however, it is a nail breaker! I have worked on it for two days opening and closing the utility blades and oiling it repeatedly and she is still very tight. I have never had to work so hard to break a knife in. The can opener has been opened and closed over 700 times and it has not loosened up much. I think once I get it broke in she will be fine, but what I saved in $$$$ I am definitely having to make up for in break in time; however, the tools are heavy duty and the knife will most likely hold up to extreme abuse. Update 2024. I ordered a second knife as a gift and the quality has diminished. The blades are far thinner, the weight of the knife is less. My original is very robust, thick steel on every tool. The new ones are thin. Very disappointed in the upgraded model.

Loved one so much, I now own three!
This is a high quality, well made, easily sharpened camp knife the likes of which costs 50 - 60 or more dollars from other comparable brands. I say comparable because the quality of this knife, sitting right alongside much more expensive knives that I own is comparable - simple as that, if you ignore price and just judge these on what-they-are you cannot tell that this isn't a 60+ dollar knife, nothing about it feels cheap or shabby.I carry this knife daily, I have even bought two more because I like them so much, the scalloping is ribbed and works great, the steel is decently hard 440 stainless - easily sharpened albeit not the hardest metal. The scales are genuine bone, the D ring on it is thick and well made, everything about this knife is well made. I am very very VERY impressed with this and I think that with care, this knife will last me a lifetime.

Loose
The main blade and bottle opener have some play when opened. When compared to my other camp knives these two blades are loose. Main blade is very thin compared to my other camp knives.

Awesome everyday carry.
Great pocket knife for everyday carry. I carry mine and comes in handy. Also price is excellent value compared to more expensive pocket knives with less tools.

Too hard to open!!
I bought this knife as a gift for my brother. Generally speaking, rough rider knives are great and this was a quality knife but it is literally so hard to get open I wouldn't even want to carry it. I attempted to oil the hinge and it didn't help much, if at all.
