This KS2 Discover & Learn: Mayan Civilisation book is brilliant for helping children in Key Stage 2 to understand and engage with the history of the Mayans ! Each topic is explained in a pupil-friendly style , with full-colour timelines , photos and illustrations . There are clear headings to break up the text, plus questions to get children thinking about the way people lived at the time. Thereโs also a matching Activity Book (9781782949725) containing a range of thought-provoking questions about the Mayans โ ideal for making sure all that new knowledge really sticks. Review: Dad more excited than the young reader, but an excellent book and a great topic - I love well-illustrated history books. In particular if it addresses a slightly less obvious topic as this book about the Mayas does (in contrast to the obligatory children history books about pyramids and castles). Unfortunately for my young daughter I have a keen interest in the Mayas having visited several of the sites in Mexico and Guatemala in the past and having read and collected many books about the topic. So I had a lot of material to share when for her historical topic for the school semester was Mayas. I was was obviously more excited than she was. Then then I also stumbled on this book and it was an instant buy. We have used the book for guided reading. I really liked it and my daughter is warming up to the subject. The book gives a clear overview of the city states, the daily life and the cultural practices of the Maya. It very well manages to put all in a historical context and provides lot of interesting details. And again, itโs really well illustrated. The book doesnโt avoid the bloody and gruesome aspect of maya religion, so parents and teacher might have to prepare the young readers for that. Given the amount of detail and text its probably best for children aged 10 to 11. So great value given the price, would have spent more and would have bought the hard cover if there was one available. Iโm going to buy some of the other books in this series as well. The one about the Saxons and Vikings strike me as quite interesting. Review: Ideal book - Arrived on time. Good information needed for the age range.

It helped with a project.
They were studying the Mayan culture at school. This helped with their project and afterwards we donated it to the local library to help any other parents out that might need it for their children.

My daughter loves this book, I have also enjoyed reading this with my daughter! The pictures are great and illustrate the interesting text very well. We are taking our time as we don't want the book to end.

Smart Mayan civilisation still in use
The good, the bad and the brilliant ideas of the Maya. Their coca drink sounds nice. Very enjoyable book. Hope you have a good read too! Imho.

Just covers the facts, not lots of detail
Very superficial in detail but guess itโs only for KS2 students.
