Complete Greek with Two Audio CDs: A Teach Yourself Guide 4th Edition

Looking for a book to expand my Greek vocabulary,I opted for this one out of a long list of alternatives, most of which were cheaper.Luckily for me it has turned out to be a great buy.Having started to learn Greek with the 2 sets of Michel Thomas cds I decided to buy a book to help me see the language rather than just hear it and break out from the purely grammar led type of learning.Because of this little gem I have increased my knowledge and ability with the Greek alphabet and started to pick up some useful social language as well.The book itself after a few months of constant use, is still in pristine condition.I would highly recommend it.

I have been using this for around 10 months now and I feel I have made quite good progress considering it is the first foreign language I have tried to learn since school. The book progresses well and each new chapter has a new topic and introduces a new concept (such as one chapter on the weather which also introduces past tense). I found that the number of exercises in the book wasn't quite enough to cement the vocabulary in my head, so although I get compliments on my pronunciation (thanks to the audio) I don't have a very wide range of words. Despite being called 'Complete' Greek the book doesn't always give a translation for a newly introduced word, even in the glossary at the back (although partly I think this is due to the Discovery Method mentioned on the book cover) and relies on you to build lists of vocabulary which are of particular interest to you (so it will give you a few job titles, then ask you to find a few on your own too). This isn't necessarily a downside but means you do need another resource such as a Greek-English dictionary for this kind of activity.I would give 4 stars but the answers section at the back of the book has a lot of errors (seriously, I've been through and confirmed it with a greek speaker, it isn't just me getting it wrong). It's a bit annoying they haven't done a more thorough check on the answers as it is a useful way to gauge how successfully you are completing the activities. Also one or two of the audio tracks have incorrect audio on them, but the vast majority are correct and it hasn't been a major hindrance. Again though, they should have got it right.

For the price this is a very poor product. The book is low quality, thin paper. Worse is the fact that the conversations on the CD do not always match the text (e.g conversation 7.09)DO NOT BUY THIS -LOOK ELSEWHERE
