Yes -- it is to an ultraviolet light that is a "tube" (water goes through the tube and the light bulb is encased). It's to help kill algae. Our light bulb is not part of the filter. However, we have had great success with this purchase. Hope this helps!

I was told this bulb would as a replacement however I have a 24vdc transformer plugged into the furnace lamp housing. This bulb is a 60v bulb??

do they light up purple ?

UV light looks like blue/violet thru the fiber optic in my duct bracket. Purple is a close match. Don't look directly at any UV light.
