Deepwater Horizon [4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Download] [2016]

Had previously watched this via a network streaming channel around 3 years ago, thought then I'd liketo own the film, forgot all about doing so until it became on-offer on the 4k format.Glad I decided to do so, the film as I suspected would be the case given the visual-effects of the reconstructionof the disaster and can confirm that on the content is in my opinion greatly enhanced on this format.(Well worth owning if you have 4k given the current price on this site of just £11.95.A great watch -The disaster depicted in the movie tells of the catastrophic events that happened on the 20th April 2010 on the oil-rig'Deepwater Horizon' 40 miles off the coast in the 'Gulf of Mexico' ...causing the most serious oil-related incident in AmericanHistory......an event that made the headlines worldwide.Though there is much in the way of adaptation in terms of accuracy in this Hollywood-Blockbuster most of what has beendepicted really did happen...this is in effect a true re-enactment of events.The film largely following the fortunes of rig-foreman 'Mike Williams' (Mark Wahlberg) during the disaster.....When against the wishes and concerns of the day-to-day operators on the rig visiting company official 'Vidrine'( John Malcovich)because of costly delays in the operation, he insists on a re-run of tests performed, which triggers a blow-out and a catastrophicand an unstoppable chain of events that triggers just about every system on the rig to react causing a string of explosions thatspiral out of control.We follow the desperate efforts to maintain calm and ensure that survivors are taken off the blazing-rig, though some of theheroics are a little exaggerated, obviously, some of the heroics filmed did take place and injuries to many of the crew did occurincluding injuries sustained by 'Mike Williams' and indeed to 'Mr Jimmy' Jimmy Harrell (Kurt Russell) rig-manager.126 worked on 'Deepwater Horizon' sadly 11 perished, though it may well have been so much worse....Certainly, a film that will have you on the edge of your seat as the disaster unfolds as you watch the efforts to stop theinevitable and the struggle to get the survivors off the burning rig.With superb visual-effects - it is certainly a story that needed to be screened and Certainly a film worthy of viewing.

I would rate this film as very average and probably not worth buying in the 4K format, given I did not find the results any better than I would have expected from a normal blu ray. There are a number of special effects, explosions etc but the actual plot I thought was relatively weak. The people involved were not to me strong characters but just there to enhance the oil rig catastrophe.I probably would not recommend buying this in 4k format at all, and would not really give it a much higher rating as a ordinary blu ray or DVD.

Enjoyable and watchable, good film, good cast, good acting. Definitely recommend
